Left 4 Dead 2: The Passing priced

Still down for release this "spring".

Microsoft's Inside Xbox team has revealed that Left 4 Dead 2 add-on The Passing will cost 560 Microsoft Points (£4.76 / €6.72) when it comes out.

However there's no more word on when that will be beyond "spring", which is what we were told last week.

That's when we also learned that The Passing would include new "game modes", a golf club melee weapon and other goodies.

The Passing sees the current survivors come face to face with their equivalents from the first Left 4 Dead, and will be followed up with L4D1 DLC that shows what happens to the original survivors to get them to the events in The Passing.

Check out Inside Xbox's SENTUAMESSAGE (thanks Kotaku) if you want to hear the words "560 MS Points" spoken out loud.

    Another day, another Valve delay...
  • f00b_inc #5 2 years ago

It will be a big fat zero cost on the PC?
  • waggy79 #6 2 years ago

@Matrim83, agree on both points :-)

Let's hope it's mostly bug free at launch unlike Crash Course on the 360 which had to be patched within a day if I remember as it was easy to walk through walls.

It will cost nothing on the PC. This is Valve, remember.

@f00b_inc Very true. And great news for PC gamers.

Although one does wonder whether the paying 360 users might be funding the development of high quality add-ons that everyone can enjoy...

Half Life 2 Episodes were definitely NOT free initially (when the PC was the only platform on which they developed)...
  • Liam64 #10 2 years ago

@Moribundman - Valve have been releasing high quality, (relatively) frequent updates for free since the original Counterstrike ten years ago.

The money from 360 DLC won't hurt, but their post launch business model isn't built around it. The Half Life episodes weren't free because they were significant expansion packs.

Pretty sure that charge just goes to microsoft, I don't think valve make anything off this (unless you're counting gamers happiness)

And on a totally different subject, it would be nice to have melee weapons introduced for L4D1 just for this pack... Also the probably prospect of one of the L4D crew carking it and becoming a zombie should add some interesting variety, especially if the player retains control... THAT would be fun in MP.

    @Moribundman

It's impossible for any one of the original survivors to become infected. They're immune. They will simply die.

if it's free on the PC then they can put this where the sun don't shine for all i care. I think it's hitting a few weeks earlier on the 360..which probably means it will be offered free on the PC - which frankly takes the piss. They can blame microsoft all they want..MS didnt force them to place it at 560points..rather than 200, 400 ect, and they also don't force Valve not to add something extra and exclusive for that "need" to charge - such as avatar items. Valve want to make money off console owners..why shouldnt they? just dont start feeding us shit about MS forcing you to take our money. When you obviously view us as different and less "important" to your PC install base.

Still kinda waiting for my L4D one content. You know, that isn't only half a campaign for the same price.
