Killzone 2 coming in September

Sony refreshes release schedule.

Sony has told us the September date for Killzone 2 is nothing new, but we thought it was worth repeating anyway.

The publisher was doing a spot of spring cleaning on its press site, which prompted many to jump to date-announcement conclusions. However, Resistance 2 in November and LittleBigPlanet in September are dates we have known about for a while.

It's also worth noting the date for Time Crisis 4 has been narrowed down to 18th April. We knew this already. Yes we did.

In the meantime there's Gran Turismo 5 Prologue and Everybody's Golf: World Tour, which arrive this Friday.

The former has already been reviewed by Tom, and the latter is being put through its paces by him as we write. Expect our thoughts soon.

i wouldn't be even vaguely suprised if this slips to next easter.

Resistance and LBP should really help keep the end of the year going along nicely for the PS3 though.

Why people are getting excited over PS3 killzone is baffling. the first game was a turd, and THAT trailer fooled a lot of tards. im sorry, but Guerrilla still has a lot to prove.
  • DonnieDarko333 #3 4 years ago

    It's a Sony's Xmas then!
  • Triggerhappytel #4 4 years ago

I'm expecting Resistance 2 and LBP to be very good, and although Killzone 2 has a lot to prove I think it will be significantly better than the first game.

The PS3 might just sway me this Christmas; the line-up is pretty solid.
  • dsmx #5 4 years ago

Actually killzone 2 doesn't have to prove that guerrilla can make a good game, they already did that with killzone liberation, all they have to prove is they can make a good game on the ps3.
  • miiiguel #6 4 years ago

WTF??? I thought PS ppl didn't dig shooters, it is a "lesser" genre and shit...
  • dsmx #7 4 years ago

News flash miiiguel realises that all fanboys are hypocritical bastards who are blind to reason and logic.

Weird, Killzone 2 and RFOM2 are being released almost simultaneously, that's not very smart IMO, but hey, what the hell, I'm not interested anyway.

Not really worth noting, given its supposed to be load of old shit.

yeah killzone was pants. Was pretty well polished but as a "halo" beater the gameplay just wasn't up to it.
  • Cloudane #11 4 years ago

This Friday is a good day for PS3 owners and will keep me happy for a long while yet.

Yep. My copies already been posted!
  • Les #13 4 years ago

Loved the original Killzone. Terrific art direction, nice story/game universe but technically too ambitious for the hardware. Shame the media labeled it a halo beater as it's a completely different type of game. Despite the SF setting more realistic instead of arcady.

I just hope they keep the slow pace and don't go for a gung-ho game the second time around.
  • SBfistfun #14 4 years ago

If they push it out for September it's gonna be shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitttttttttttttte
  • callum9999 #15 4 years ago

Why does everyone always moan about killzone? I thought it was a very good game. It also went platinum - cant be that bad
  • SBfistfun #16 4 years ago

I actually enjoyed the first one for the first few levels, but it quickly got boring
  • Ryze #17 4 years ago

    Hmmmm... question!

    Will it be good?
  • Prodigy_BE #18 4 years ago

Same here. Killzone one was great.
Most of the Killzone haters never even played the damn thing.

It was twice as long as Halo 2, not even counting the different paths with different characters, had a nice story and good art direction. The only thing that didn't live up to the hype was the multiplayer.

Just too bad it got caught up in that Killzone vs Halo battle, with Halo being the untouchable game that is perfect in every way. Just like Nintendo's Mario or Zelda.

I think Guerrilla will amaze us. They realtime demo the showed at last year's E3 is still the most amazing videogame gfx I ever saw.
Face it, with Bungie and Bizzare Creations going multiplatform, and Bioware being bought EA, MS is in serious need of top exclusive developers. And Sony did a good thing buying Guerrilla three years ago.
  • convercide #19 4 years ago

Aw c'mon the first was awful. Repetitive and bland. Nothing like the hype.

    A bit like Halo.

Well Sony did that, not fanbois... They labelled it Halo-killer
  • Rash' #21 4 years ago

The guys at 1up have heard this game is coming out this year... no matter what. Sounds worrying. I'm keen to see more, though I'm under no illusions about its potential. Resistance looks to be more promising.
  • Arwin #22 4 years ago

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is out just about everywhere in stores as of today, it seems. At least, according to my friendslist, and the disc lying next to my PS3 (I'm watching House, too ill to play - though maybe watching House in this condition ... )
  • penguin_overlord #23 4 years ago

It's definitely shaping up to be a very strong year for the PS3. I'm sure a lot of 360 owners will be upgrading to a proper next-gen console before the year is out.
  • smoothn00dle #24 4 years ago

that's a strong list + MGS4 but I believe Killzone2 would be better release next year?
  • The-Bodybuilder #25 4 years ago

    >"It also went platinum - cant be that bad"

    50cent's game went platinum.

    @ Les.

I never buy that excuse when people claim the PS2 couldn't handle Killzone. You just need to like at titles like Black (in particular), TimeSplitters FP, Project: Snowblind or Cold Winter for examples of technically more solid and smooth experiences than Killzone. Admittedly, Killzone had much more appealing and original style and art than these games, although I think a lot of the reason it was so rough around the edges was due to Guerrilla's relative inexperience with the console and probably Sony's pushing to get it released in time for Xmas '04. I don't really think it's guilty of anything which another six months in development couldn't have sorted.

While the PS2 couldn't produce FPS as impressive and visually outstanding as the Xbox, it still had a good few titles under its hat, and I don't think blaming the hardware for Killzone's shortcomings is wholly accurate.

Killzone was arse, I've tried it on both my PS2 and upscaled, just as disc said.

    It simply Isn't Very Good.

That's without going anywhere near the multiplayer either.

    BUT

At least I've enjoyed Resistance, so I'm looking forward to that near Xmas! \o/

If RFOM2 and Killzone 2 both come out almost at the same time, I know which one I'll choose.

    Hint: It's not Killzone 2.
  • Hobo #30 4 years ago

Biggest game in September is SOCOM: Confrontation.

    No lie.

"Biggest game in September is SOCOM: Confrontation. "

    Lies!
  • Les #32 4 years ago

"Well Sony did that, not fanbois... They labelled it Halo-killer"

If I recall correctly they didn't. It was the video game media, always looking for the next cheap headline.

"I never buy that excuse when people claim the PS2 couldn't handle Killzone."

You might be right. Never played Black and I sure have seen titles more impressive graphically than Killzone. At any rate they wanted it to do more than they could make the hardware do. I've only played it on PS3 upscaled but thought it didn't look too bad, though pop-up was awful the framerate never became a real problem (but was far from smooth).

"If RFOM2 and Killzone 2 both come out almost at the same time, I know which one I'll choose.

    Hint: It's not Killzone 2."

If both titles are anything like their first games, the only thing they'll share is an SF setting and a first person view. Resistance is an arcade game, a bit like Halo. Killzone is more like CoD.

    ah yes Killzone 2,

another game thats going to make or break sony ps3 campaign against microsofts x360. I only say this because a fast spreadinfg rumour is that this year is going to be for the PS3 so killzone 21 ios either going to help or make it worse considering the hype its generating. Oh yeah bytw Liberation was fantastic and quite hard on the PSP. I never managed to finish it but what they managed to do with that little thing and the killzone franchise i was impressed. Really well made in my oppinion compared to UB latest outing with vegas 2 where numerous online companies like IGN report frame rate issues.
  • Widge #35 4 years ago

I found Halo miles better than the original Killzone too. It just felt CLUNKY next to it. Halo was a breath of fresh air to a generation that wasn't really flush with FPS games, its the only reason I got a black box, and ended up being pretty much the only game I played on it.
  • Jheronimus #36 4 years ago

Another shooter for the ShooterBox!!! At least the PS3 has got... oh sorry! ;)
