Music updates hitting in autumn.

Activision has announced that Guitar Hero 6 will be hitting store shelves this autumn, with a new DJ Hero game coming "soon after".

The new games were mentioned in a conference call discussing Activision's stronger-than-expected first quarter financial results.

Activision promised "new and innovative gameplay modes" and a "significantly enhanced social gaming experience" for both titles.

The company expects increased profitability for its music games this year as the market compresses and "moves from sales of higher-priced peripherals to realising the improved economics of a focus on software sales".

I'm not convinced people want lots of new game modes. GH5 has a few special game modes related to streaks, multipliers and difficulties... I've personally never looked at them (which is obviously a somewhat limited survey of just 1, i.e. entirely pointless).

Surely people have enough peripherals nowadays? And surely all the best songs have been used in GH or RB by now? Surely a dying market?

Fear not, Rock Band 3 will at least be decent, if only because it already has a lot of good songs.

Not excited by this announcement at all to be honest, GH5 had literally only one song that made me want to buy it. Considering how much anticipation I had for GH2 back in the day, it's a shame to see how the series has fallen.
