GTA IV DLC in 2008 and 2009?

Fiscal 2009 anyway.

Take Two has said that it plans to release "additional episodic content for Grand Theft Auto IV" in fiscal 2009.

CEO Ben Feder had been gassing away in the company's Q1 financial statement about how "for the balance of fiscal 2008 our releases will include" among other things he mentioned "episodic content for Grand Theft Auto IV on Xbox 360".

But then he added: "We also have significant visibility into fiscal 2009, which includes additional episodic content for Grand Theft Auto IV, Mafia II, Borderlands, BioShock 2, our complete sports line-up, additional Nick Jr. titles under our agreement with Nickelodeon, and several new brands."

Up to now we've known about two additional Xbox 360-exclusive GTA IV episodes, which Microsoft may or may not have spent USD 50 million to secure (certainly puts horse armour into perspective). Microsoft has previously said that the downloadable episodes will be "starting fall 2008", which is autumn in old money, but we don't know exactly what form they will take or how much you will have to pay for them.

So, does Feder's latest statement mean we'll be getting more than the two episodes, or just that the release will be staggered? Given that Take Two's financial year ends on 31st October, it could mean nothing, but in the absence of clarification it's hard to rule anything out.

Or does it mean, as people with nothing better to do have speculated, that PS3 will get some as well? Expect this one to run and run and then steal a car because it's faster.

It is my wish, my one small wish, that this comments thread doesn't turn into a giant big floppy vagina filled with P360 fanboyism spurting out all over my face.

If there is no DLC for PS3 I will eat my hat.

I will also be impressed with the deal that MS must have done.

    Speculation > formal announcements, FACT!

I imagine there'll be two types of DLC - expansions and add-ons. MS will have paid to make the expansions exclusive, and add-ons (weapons, cars, skins etc) will be on all formats.

    Exclusive means Exclusive.
They never appear on other consoles
Just like Streetfighter II on the SNES and the CAPCOM 5 on the Gamecube

    oh.... er...

"So, does Feder's latest statement mean we'll be getting more than the two episodes?"

Well, you're the so-called journalists, EG, so why don't you find out rather than put out guesses. Do you want Microsoft's number or can you look it up by yourselves?

In my opinion, this means the one and same exclusive episodic content for X360 and that's it. Just because they put it twice in a statement does not mean there's more content to come for other consoles as well. If that were the case, they'd be screaming and shouting about it already! Sometimes, things are exactly as they seem...nothing more.

If it transpires that it's actually true, then these new episodes will be available for all consoles the game is released on. The only exclusive content is for X360, because that's the only thing that's been confirmed.

Everything else is rumour and conjecture.

    @ irnchriz

Yeah, that's my exact thought too. Although I wouldn't be surprised if, further down the line, we do see additional cars & costumes pop up on PSN.

But as for "proper" DLC, that'll remain 360 exclusive.

Fools rush in or maybe not, I ll be one of those purchasing both add on just to complete my GTA4 addiction (as I ll expect it ll to be!) and yes should expect it to eventualllly turn up on PS3 and elsewhere but at least X360 owners get to refer to it and PS3 only owners pretended not to be interested until they get their hands on it!.
