GRAW 2's "Throwback Pack"

Seven blasts from multiple pasts.

Sneaky Mexican-shooting ghosts can spook their way over Xbox Live Marketplace this afternoon to avail themselves of seven new battlegrounds.

That's because today marks the release of the Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 "Throwback Pack", which is all set to take up 487MB of your hard disk - providing you're willing to fork over 800 Microsoft points (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.30).

The seven maps in question aren't exactly new, returning as they do from the likes of Ghost Recon 2, Summit Strike and the original GRAW, but they have all seen a GRAW 2 lick of paint, which Ubisoft reckons ought to turn a few face-painted heads.

The maps in question, for those with good memories, are Bonfires, Desert Gulch, Fishing Village, Jungle Mines, Mountain Base, Mountain Falls and Peninsula. You should find their respective layouts intact, and each of them is set up to work with each of GRAW 2's existing multiplayer modes.

    Don't mind GR2 maps but 800 points for GRAW1 maps?! At least Dick Turpin wore a mask.
  • kangarootoo #2 5 years ago

    GR1 had some of the best maps of the bunch.

    Summit Strike wasn't too bad. GR2 maps were mostly a bit lame I thought.

    What does it matter when they were designed? Surely what counts is how much fun they are to play.

    I'm sure they won't have GR1 textures pasted all over them, if that is any reassurance :)

    @Lebowski:

    You didn't even bother to read the article before commenting, did you?

    Tit...

    @BBIAJ

    Er, yes, I did read the article - that's why I was able to comment on it. See how it works? Do you? Good boy.

    Dont like it? Dont buy it!

    Simple enough. Man there are some serious whiners around here. Being down on everything and saying its crap just for the sake of it isn't cool nor is it interesting.

    EDIT: And complaining that they are making a profit? Now that is really pathetic.

    "Er, yes, I did read the article - that's why I was able to comment on it."

    That is by no means a given. In this case, maybe you read the article but ignored the words?

    What is all this bollox about getting charged for this stuff.

    They aren't the same assets from the original game, so someone had to make them look nice, and that someone got paid to do it, and this isn't a charity they are running, so you the customer have to pay in turn IF you want the product, just like every other business in the universe.

    What part of that sentence do people have a problem with (besides the excessive use of commas)?

    I guess that would be the 'logic and common sense' parts, my man.

    Maybe if you typed in rabid, frothing terms (all in caps, of course), with some numbers replacing some letters and maybe some kind of veiled insult as to your gender/sexual preference, people would understand things a bit clearer.

    Like Jaffe - many seem to credit him more for his outrageously extreme reactions to the opinions of others than they do those who criticise in only mildly insulting terms: case in point, the recent Major Nelson post over the Gears MP pack prices.

    Surely they missed the 'in our faces' from the title?
  • Lebowski #13 5 years ago

    Nah, not money-huggin, just able to spot a scam.

    GRAW2's a glorified expansion pack in the first place, and now it's offering you the chance to buy back the original maps.

    God forbid they split the DLC to give us the option of just buying the pre-360 maps. No, let's f*** those who've tried to stay loyal to the game and charge 'em twice. You know, the same ones who paid full whack for the GRAW1 DLC at its launch, which we then cut in price without pre-warning them. Those suckers are worth a few more quid.

    How much will you spend when they put a couple of new clouds in the sky on Desert Gulch next time? 800, 1200 points? Keep takin' it cos I'm sure Ubi will keep pumping you for all you're worth.

    Pull your head in young man. Vote with your wallet and don't buy it - or do buy it; nobody cares.
  • trevd72 #15 5 years ago

    i got suckered into buying the "expansion" for GRAW, luckily the 360 decided to stop working so i got the 1200 points back. am I right in thinking there are no extra modes with this one.

    I must say that the R6:V download was a good use of extra content so why can't they have the same here? Saying that I am praying for re-hashed maps for R6 like the garage and airport oh and that factory one....might be called factory, cos they did a cracking job with streets.

    @Lebowski

    "You know, the same ones who paid full whack for the GRAW1 DLC at its launch,"

    You really DIDN'T read the article did you.

    A map is made up of many things. Collision geometry, art geometry, textures, event placement, etc. The only thing the originals have in common with their reworked counterparts as far as I can tell is the collision geometry.

    If they moves a few walls back a couple of feet, would that make you happy?

    And as others have said "No, let's f*** those who've tried to stay loyal to the game and charge 'em twice" only applies if you are simply incapable of controlling your pocket money.

    I refused to pay for the GRAW maps when they were released, because they were just re-lit, and I thought it was a rip off at around £10, and I simply wasn't interested in the co-op missions but I must admit I am very tempted to buy this add on. I play GRAW2 with my friends quite often and I'm sure that they will buy this pack too.
    Also, GRAW1 was the first G.R game I played, so it will be nice to play on the maps from previous titles as they will be new to me. If people think it's a rip off, vote with your wallets as I did with 'Chapter 2', but this add on looks good value to me at just over £6!

    I thought the whole idea of premium content was so that publishers had the funds to create NEW! content?

    Oh right, but then they found out gamers would pay any price for any old tat, and decided it was rape time.

    Oh man

    Lebowski phails so hard
  • dudefella #20 5 years ago

  • speedstars13 #21 5 years ago

    These stuffs used to be free! Thank you Micro$oft.
  • MC07 #22 5 years ago

    What do they take us for. We Should NOT have to Pay twice for GRAW 1 maps. They should be free as DLC from XBL for having purchased number 2!!
  • robotgremlin #23 5 years ago

    @kangarootoo

    I'd bet you'd buy it at a high price
