Square Enix is re-releasing Final Fantasy I and Final Fantasy II on the iPhone.

There's no date, but we do know the games will be re-fitted with touch controls, extra dungeons and bonus unlockable content.

Released a million years ago (1987) on NES, these original Final Fantasy games helped found one of the world's most iconic gaming brands. It may surprise you to see how much - or indeed how little - has changed since then.

These actually look really cool. I wouldn't buy them again, even if I had an iPhone.. but I wish they'd do the other 2D games for the PSP like this. They'd probably sell a lot better than the 500th port of the first two that were sold seperatly did.

Anyone know what the level grind is like on the PSP version? The originals were pretty hardcore in their need for constant grinding, so I've never bothered with them. If they've made it a bit more reasonable I might buy the iPhone version when it comes out.

The iPhone version is based on the PSP one, which is based on the GBA one, which is based on the Origins' Easy difficulty level. Basically, you have shared MP for all magic, spells require little MP, level ups take less experience, and enemies do less damage.

But I find it boring. I liked the Origins' Normal difficulty level better.

I missed out on Final Fantasy because I was too busy playing Bart vs the Space Mutants on my NES and then I stayed loyal to Nintendo while the franchise moved to Sony. Is it worth me getting this for the iPhone or just waiting for the new one on the Xbox? I do like a nice RPG now and again.

The big touch symbols look odd.

Anyway, these games are fun to play through once in a while. Definitely worth picking up if you don't already own them for something else.

Shame that it's on the ipone/touch not the PSN (where SE are putting the other titles atm) but again already owned the GBA ones and looked at the psp titles.. out of the collection i wouldn't mind V and VI again, getting it for a third time is a bit obbessive, I understand getting things from the old eras is ok but now SE are just milking the old numbers to death (even tho they already have orginal and GOOD titles on the pod netwrok)..

Earlier I said I was getting in iPhone in a couple of weeks, turns out I'm due an upgrade now and will have it on Wednesday! Shame this won't be out by then. Might get involved in that Chinatown Wars in the meantime
