Rooney "delighted" to be back, too.

EA has revealed Chelsea stalwart Frank Lampard and Arsenal youngster Theo Walcott as FIFA 10 cover stars for the UK. Box regular Wayne Rooney completes the trio.

All three strike poses with mouths wide enough for pies and fists clenched for glory. Rooney dominates the picture, while Frank bulges out to his left and Theo pops out like an egg to his right.

Frank Lampard said being on the cover is "really special" for him, while Theo Walcott - who plays FIFA in the Arsenal dressing room - finds appearing next to the others a "huge honour". Rooney is also "delighted", and apparently regularly plays online against "the lads".

FIFA 10 arrives on 2nd October for DS, PC, PS2, PS3, PSP, Wii and Xbox 360.

What a terrible cover... I know Rooney is no oil painting but they couldn't have made him look more hideous if they'd tried! Yuck! And is that really Frank Lampard... doesn't look anything like him from that shot? :?

I guess these kinds of covers are arguments in favour of digital downloads... that way you would never have endure ugly art work!

I don't know, I quite like it, looks like a lovely snow scene with all that white. Still, it's infinitely more interesting than most Fifa box covers, the design (aside from the players, ahem) is a bit more inventive than usual.

Lets face it, they are players from the teams most likely to be played over and over and over again. Using the same repetitive tactics that abuse the game's design. All those teams for available online yet virtually no-one plays them.

Fab, I've heard that the game will allow you to set a preference for who you want to play against online based on the star ratings of the sides, so you could play against only two star teams. Good for those of us who like to mix it up.

I'd have thought they'd do it like Pro Evo where they change players on the cover depedning on which European country it's being sold in, while keeping the world known players like Messi, or Ronaldo in all of them.

Have no interest in football, and last computer game of the sport I played was International Soccer on Commodore 64; despite the fact that one of my old friends worked on many FIFA games.

But EA appears to have made some kind of mistake, they've got a picture of an Orc on the front cover of FIFA 10! Surely that picture belongs on a Lord Of The Rings title?

Looking at that shot again, Rooney really does look quite scary/freaky (delete as applicable). I wonder if he said he was "pleased" about his appearance before or after he'd seen the cover?

Sorry, Walcott has the footballing ability of a bus. His speed is the only thing that gets him noticed.

It clearly should have been Gerrard but they were probably worried he'd be in the klink now.

The nail in Walcotts coffin was being replaced by Bendtner in the CL semi final, both legs I might add. Humiliation of the worst type.

@frycrayola: that's handy. I played as Aldershot (1 star team) online and ended up playing against AC Milan. 5-0 and I ended up having to foul all the damn time.

@jefranklin18 : A 5-0 loss with those teams isn't bad at all. I've seen much worse with two good teams, so kudos. But, yeah, I agree that a balanced fixture feature would be awesome.

Well I've seen him play, in the flesh, for both Arsenal and Southampton, but I can't lend you my memories, so a Youtube video will have to do. Still, you go on thinking what you like about him. I'm pretty confident he'll be a top class player, and far from the least talented Premiership player monicker you, in your infinite wisdom, have seen fit to bestow on him.
