F1 2010 will be "best F1 game ever"

Says the man making it.

Codemasters' Gavin Raeburn has said that F1 2010 will be "the best F1 game ever".

Speaking to the UK's Official Xbox Magazine, Raeburn said it would capture the "drama and rivalry" of F1, and offer players a choice of arcade and simulation angles.

"Key to this is enabling people to find and play with the right people," Raeburn explained, referring to the online options.

"If you're an arcade fan playing F1 online you probably want to play with like-minded players in shorter races, rather than end up in a hardcore sim session."

Those in the second camp can expect to have to deal with changing grip levels, weather conditions and hopefully all the other things that make F1 so interesting - race strategy, car development, lying to the stewards, etc.

Codemasters said recently that F1 2010 would not be released until next year on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, but Sumo Digital-developer PSP and Wii versions are due this year.

    You'll have to, though.

Hope the fps is above nausea levels.

Looking forward to it, haven't played an F1 game in years. What's the betting the Wii version has drivers with big heads?*

Geoff Crammond got it so right, lets hope Codies do too..fingers crossed.

    God I feel old.
When I read the title I thought for a second that this would be about some kind of futuristic arcade racer, then I realized that 2010 is next year...

    Very pleased about PC inclusion.

    lol lying to the stewards.

Has to be a feature, or no sale!

/inserts obligatory (and utterly justified) comment about hoping the cars don't pivot about a single point as in GRID

I'm still wary of this - by sim, it'd better be actual F1 rules, safety cars, the lot. F1 Championship Edition came close to getting it spot-on, but fluffed it with a few dodgy decisions (ie. exceptionally harsh short-cut penalties, and the penalties themselves being limited engine revs instead of drive-through/stop and go penalties.)

    +1 to SunJumper

I'll eat my left bollock if this is better than even crammonds later efforts or the better rfactor mods.
  • AtomicBanana #12 3 years ago

It'll handle as badly as GRID and DIRT did, so I'm out.

... would capture the "drama and rivalry" of F1 ....

...so it basically asks you what your bank balance is, and the person with the most money wins all the races. ;-)

Ok, the rules this year have mixed things up a bit, but expect Ferrari and McLyin' to be back at the front before the end of the season.

Can't see McLaren getting far out of the midfield this year to be honest, there'll come a point soon where they'll do a Honda/Brawn and put all their resources into next years car. Ferrari had a better showing though.

As long as it's updated to the 2010 season, especially considering there'll be three more teams, it'll be great.

EDIT: And with the £40 million (soft) budget cap next year, the winners will hopefully come from either skilled engineering or great driving.

Last F1 game I played was Grand Prix 3. I haven't touched a F1 game after that and hopefully this will be the first one since.

F1 won't be interesting until there's an outright ban on refueling and tyre changes to force competitors to overtake on track.

The FIA's backtrack on banning fancy aero devices (like the double decker diffusers) which was their first serious attempt to introduce racing on track, shows that they're still out of touch with what fans want. That backtrack has cost some teams an awful lot of money. As a cost cutting initiative, it's been a right screw up.

There were some pretty empty stands at yesterdays race and even more for qualifying on Saturday. I wonder if there'll be enough money for 3 new team next year.

Was thinking when will the next F1 game be, the old ones are all well and good but I need better graphics now.
  • Spekingur #19 3 years ago

Even if this will end up being something like GRID I'm guessing that I'll still enjoy it alot.
  • Macdory #20 3 years ago

I wonder if it will be like real life and not bother taking into account the race result, and just let the Stewards decide the placings?
  • sifujames #21 3 years ago

Everyone mentioning GRID has now made me less enthusiastic - couldn't get on with that game at all. Fingers crossed the person who devised GRID's handling has moved on...
  • darleysam #22 3 years ago

Macdory - damn straight. We can't have these things decided on the track.

I hope some of the game's AI coding goes towards generating suitably pathetic "-gate" scandal titles.
  • superdelphinus #23 3 years ago

It will be sh1t online unless they make your own teams etc. 22 brawn GP cars otherwise!
  • superdelphinus #24 3 years ago

oh yeah and also it has to be a completely different engine than Grid/ Dirt and 60fps
  • sifujames #25 3 years ago

@ superdelphinus: Good point about everyone going for Brawns. Maybe some kind of system where you build your own car from parts of other cars could be the answer to that: E.g. You get a budget and spend on different parts (chassis, engine, gearbox, aerodynamics package) that are based on how the real things perform. So the McLaren engine is awesome, but to afford that you may have to team it with a Toyota gearbox and Force India chassis. Do you build a super fast car that's great on the high speed circuits but rubbish on the slow technical tracks like Monaco? Or go for an all rounder and hope that slow and steady is the way to go. Could get some interesting combinations, as some builds will be more suitable to slower circuits, and some people will go power crazy and hope their skills keep them on the track.

    @ oreillymj

They didn't backtrack, just gave clarity to the existing rules.
  • Law07 #27 3 years ago

    I cannot wait for this.

Was thinking watching the F1 on Sunday that it's so much more exciting actually controlling the car than watching it. Hopefully it will be brilliant, GRID did it really well in immersing yourself in the race (Y)
  • Climhazzard #28 3 years ago

having gotten into F1 in the last couple of years i can not wait for this game now, got a while to wait by looks of it but hopefully will be worth it.
  • freedumb #29 3 years ago

-------------offer players a choice of arcade and simulation angles--------------

Why didn't they do this for GRID? In Toca Race Driver 3, you could choose to race any discipline in sim (arcade) or pro-sim (sim) handling, gravel traps, damage. But GRID was a pure arcade game dumbed down with rubbish handling and physics engine.

The adrenaline is killing me! :-D The game is awesome because of the speed rush and the tire change and fueling and it would be more awesome if the game play would be like the Grid but it would not be F1 if it does. Hope the championship race would be more harder and more competitive in which if only it would go online. Murfreesboro Pediatric Dentist
