Epic teases mysterious Unreal reveal

"It's almost here," says website.

Epic Games has teased the imminent announcement of something new, something "Unreal".

The developer's website showed an Unreal-style logo box underneath the slogan, "It's Unreal. And it's almost here."

That appears to have been removed, as have forum threads discussing the picture on the Epic Games website.

There's no word on what the teaser is for. Could it be a new Unreal Engine? A new Unreal game? Speculate away.

    Unreal remake for XBLA built in Unreal Editor 3, I'd buy that for a dollar, 1200msp at the most.

    I'd rather it wasn't another unreal torny or unreal universe game. It's such a confused and silly setup, Gears showed that they can step beyond their established IPs and produce good stuff. New ideas please!

    I'm guessing it's more likely to be a tech release of some kind than a game.

    I think wizlon is right - it'll be a revamped Unreal for XBLA/PSN/Steam.

    If it's a new Unreal or UT, I will be very pleased. Especially if it were a plain old Unreal sequel; I was one of about 10 people to actually enjoy Unreal 2.

    Unreal 3 I reckon.

    Gears is great but it could easily be part of the same hulking space marine universe as the Unreal series. It wasn't that much of a departure.

    Unreal 2 was playable but honestly, it was an abomination.

    The other possibility is an Unreal Tournament for XBLA/PSN/Web Browsers in the vein of Quake Live, cheap to play with micro transactions. I would also enjoy that. I would call it Unreal Tournament Unleashed... nah, that sounds shit.

    From the looks of the logo it seems like a tech news, like a new engine or something.
    But should it be a game and given the history of Epic games that have come out in recent years, I would bet on Unreal 3. UT3 is still quite new. And don't think it will be a completely new unreal IP. Unreal 2 was a disaster right, that did not live up to the phenomenal unreal 1. So the time actually feels ripe to make a new unreal 3.

    Besides they have been working long time on gears of war 3 right, and who wants to bet on only one horse. They need a new unreal

    Fuck yes, even in UE1.0 I'd do that, it still looks fantastic. That first section literally slapped my jaw to the ground and it didn't get up there till the end. The mood in that game was just amazing.

    The coop was brilliant as well, 8p coop, fighting those big rock throwing monsters was awesome!

    I prefer UT3 to Gears, mainly because I kinda dislike Gears plot/Universe while UT3 is ultra-kitshe yet very charismatic in an organic kinda way. And it's fast, and surreal.

    a new single player unreal game. bleszinsky said he wanted to make a survival horror game, and the first unreal is still awaiting a proper sequel.

    Ok I have to admit that Epic got me instahyped. Even if its a new game or if it will be their next engine's video I cant hide the fact I'll be all over it and Im too much curious already. I do love Epic and their work even though I wish they had released like they always used to, an Unreal 3 with their UE3 release. So now the possibilities are UE+, Unreal title, Unreal title remake. ( Not a new IP due to the "its unreal and almost here" website teaser )

    I dont remember if in their past statement about next Gears of War title, did they say that it will be in next gen consoles or they only said that it will be in their next gen UE? Cause it does make some big difference as in what to expect. Damn you Epic. Just spill the damn beans already and tell me what this is about.

    Meh, couldn't care less for a new UT. Every sequel has been running away from the perfection that the original had at great speed.

    A new Unreal (read not another tourney) would be awesome. Unreal is a great game and far better than Gears. Would like to see them do a proper sequel

    People Can Fly was bought by Epic and is working on a game that will be published by EA. I hope the image was linked to this project.

    After the poor sales of Tournament on PC, I'm expecting a console specific game which realistic teabag physics.

    the first Unreal was a great game.
    very atmospheric , fantastic graphics ( ahead of its time ) and amazing sound.
    the fly through castle menu screen is still a great "attract" sequence.
    Many many moments of awe through the game as well. Walking down the valley towards the sunspire was great!

    Hopefully it's a continuation of the unreal FPS and not another tornament game.

    Disagree completely. The campaign mode in UT3 was just variants of the diferent online modes on different maps unlike the great camaign in Gears of war. The online mode was ok, but to often the matches included bots and that is never fun imo.

    edit : and i forgot. Probably Unreal Engine 4.

    Unreal Tournament 3 was the greatest UT since the original, all the more shame that nobody played it. And a shame that the interface for configuring a game was so damned unfriendly.

    Unreal 2 was very mediocre, which is a shame as it looked amazing and was awesome - the inbetweeny bits on your ship were great, though I will admit I didn't see much of the briefings as I was crouched on the floor admiring the chick's butt.

    I'm hearing rumours it's a release of Unreal Engine 3 for use by consumers, rather than developers.

    I hope so :D

    I'd be well up for a new Unreal game, I enjoy the setting and with a potentially new engine too that could be great. No more Unreal Tournament for a while though please, it's a tired series.

    Everyone should lighten up and be a bit more optimistic... whatever it is, I'm sure it'll be ace... or even, "epic". God, that was the most terrible pun I've thought up in ages.

    I reckon it might even be a generic FPS with shiny graphics. OR!!! A way of making averagely scripted generic FPS with shiny graphics.
