Empire Interactive officially goes bust News

PC PlayStation 2 PSP DS Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 Wii
News by Ellie Gibson

6 May, 2009

UK publisher Empire Interactive has officially gone into administration, leaving 49 members of staff redundant.

The company's intellectual property has already been sold to New World IP in the US. Empire-published titles include Pipe Mania, Ford Racing Off Road, Hello Kitty: Big City Dreams and the FlatOut series.

Administrator KPMG Restructuring has been appointed to wind down the business. "Despite the fact that the gaming industry has been relatively unscathed by the current recession, trading losses, development spend and a delay in recent new product approval had a fatal impact on the Empire's cash flow," said KPMG's Ian Corfield.

"We are not looking to sell the business as a going concern and are effecting an orderly wind-down of Empire's operations."

What the article doesn't mention is that staff at Empire were due 2 months wages and left in limbo right up until today!!!!

Adding to the Flatout ;_; Hopefully someone else can pick it up and do a proper Flatout 3.

Also, everyone should salute the fallen Empire(interactive), at least you got us Taito Legends 1&2.

I still rate Flatout ultimate carnage as the best 360 racer by a mile so this is bad news indeed.

It would be good to see that IP picked up by someone but will they be as good a coders as Empire is the question and will they be able to do a proper Flatout game.

Erm, FlatOut was coded by Bugbear, Empire Interactive were just the publishers.
