Divinity games going cheap on GOG News

PC News by Ellie Gibson

2 November, 2009

Larian Studios' Divinity games are going cheap over on GOG.com.

Classic RPG Divine Divinity is now available for $5.99 (£3.65 / €4). The follow-up, Beyond Divinity, will be out soon and priced at $9.99 (£6 / €6.75).

The original Divinity, you may recall, was an isometric RPG released in 2002. "I remember the release of Divine Divinity as if it was yesterday," said Larian bossman Swen Vincke.

"We had no clue how people would react to the game and weren’t sure that our RPG mix was going to appeal. Then, suddenly we got bombarded with emails and forum reactions from people enjoying the game, and received award after award from the specialised press. It was a very rewarding time."

A new instalment in the series, Divinity II - Ego Draconis, is in development for PC and Xbox 360. You can see how it's shaping up over on Eurogamer TV.

Worth mentioning that the version of Divine Divinity on sale at GOG is newly patched and updated, fixing bugs in the game and adding support for higher resolutions.

according to Larian's site... D2 is already out? Definetly didn't get enough exposure.

It's out in some places, due in the UK later this month I believe.

Divine Divinity is probably one of my favourite RPG's to date, definitely does not get enough credit in gaming circles. For £3.65 it's a bargain if you ask me.

@Bearintraining Nov 20th for Divinity 2 in the UK I believe.

For about that price, I'd recommend people go for Torchlight. An excellent example of the genre, fantastic value and addictive as hell and is, IMO, superior to the Divinity games.

Edit: sorry to hijack the comments but it's a fantastic game.

They're not all that similar, Divinity has a little more depth on the RPG side of things than Torchlight.

The original Divine Divinity really was an underrated gem. Ate up a whole week of my life as I remember!

Aye, the first game is a must-have for any RPG/hack & slash fan, despite the horribly long-winded ending. Beyond Divinity wasn't as good though. Hopefully Divinity II is a return to form for Larian.

I played through Divine Divinity together with my girlfriend. It was great. Never tried Beyond Divinity though, might just give this pack a go.
