Chocobo's Dungeon on Wii this autumn

Bird-themed FF game confirmed for Europe.

Square Enix will be releasing Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon in Europe this autumn.

This is the Wii role-playing game where Chocobo birds dress-up as black magi or knights or scholars and travel through dungeons trying to recapture the lost memories of a mysterious town.

You'll be able to square-up against friends via Wi-Fi in turn-based card battles.

Chocobo's Dungeon is available to plunder in the US from 8th July, and is already out in Japan where it got a noteworthy 32/40 from Famitsu magazine.

Will the PAL version have Big Bird as an extra party member? They wanted to put him in the USA release but were told "Big Bird" is too "un-PC" for a Wii game!!!

An RPG for the Wii. Will this be another enrty level affair aimed completely at kids? I'm guessing so.

I had similar reservations about FF: Chocobo Tales for DS. I was completely wrong about it - a fun and sweet story which gently, humorously riffed on the FF universe, coupled to billions of stunning mini-games of shining 80s arcade adrenaline-junkie quality and a ridiculously entertaining card battle system. I thought I hated card battle systems. Best game I played for DS (exponentially more fun at FF3, for example), and one of the best I've played in years on any platform. I was genuinely disappointed to finish it. :)

If Chocobo Dungeon is developed with the same care and deftness as Chocobo Tales, it might be worth a look.

Imported this on day of release in the states. Great game that's highly recommended. Yes, it's a bit short on challenge, and you'll complete it quite quickly. But it's covered in lots of lovely Squenix polish, and the soundtrack is amazing.
