Castlevania GBA coming to WiiWare

The Adventure gets ReBorn.

Konami is working on a WiiWare version of Castlevania the Adventure, the GBA title which originally appeared way back in 1989.

The news comes courtesy of the ESRB (as reported by Go Nintendo). The ratings board has given the game a Teen rating.

The ESRB listing describes Castlevania the Adventure ReBirth as "a side-scrolling action game in which players battle against monsters in Dracula's castle".

As you might expect, "Players use a chained whip to fight their way through halls and dungeons filled with zombies, skeletons, flying eyeballs, and bats. The enemy creatures frequently shoot projectiles and attacfk players in hand-to-hand combat.

"If players sustain too much damage, they keel over and emit a burst of red blood. Some rooms in the castle also have spikes or spears stained with red, blood-like splotches."

There's no word on a price or release date for Castlevania the Adventure ReBirth as yet.

Yes, it would have been an unusual business choice to release a GBA game over a decade before the GBA existed...

Hopefully this might lead the way to some other handheld games being released. Mainly Metroid Prime Fusion & Zero Mission, so I can have the whole series on one console. Or ideally, the other GBA (now we're apparently calling all Game Boy games GBA games for some reason) version, Metroid II. I missed that one out since I could never find it in shops.

    Metroid 2 next!

There seems to be a massive assumption that it'll be a conversion of the GB title!

I'd have thought DSi ware would have been a better fit?

Regardless - more 2D Castlevania can only be seen as a good thing.

Aaw, was hope for Circle of the Moon.

There was only one half decent Castlevania game on the GB and I forget if it was adventure or not. If they are remaking this title it's not one of the best in the series. How about remaking Castlevania 3 or 4. :p

It's only rumoured to be a remake of Castlevania Adventure, it's more likely to be a new game like Contra and Gradius rebirth.

I really liked castlevania adventure but seem to be in the minority since it can be very unforgiving. Belmonts revenge and Legend were way better on the GB.

    GBA game 1989? Seriously?

Cue retro Castlevania and reviewers complaining that it's "not Castlevania" because they've taken out the post-Symphony of the Night Metroid-style gameplay.

yeah belmonts revenge is the best one on the GB IMO. im not a huge fan of adventure and i've never played the other one (but isn't that the only one that was officially removed from the series timeline or something?)
