Capcom making "gamer's game" for Natal
Reviving brand we've not seen in "a while".
Capcom is promising not to treat Natal as a "gimmick", and has revealed that a "gamer's game" is in development for the motion-sensing Xbox 360 camera.
It won't be ready at Natal's launch this autumn, Capcom's vocal business boss Christian Svensson told G4TV, but will be a game from a brand "we haven't seen in a while".
"What we're doing is creating it from the ground up for Natal, in this case," Svensson said. "We're not looking at Natal as, 'OK, here's a little Natal gimmick that we've worked into some existing game.'
"The approach is we're gonna make a 'gamers game' for Natal using something amongst our brand history," he continued. "I know [Keiji] Inafune is really excited about it, he's been very vocal both in Japan and with the media about his vision of what Natal brings. I'm going to have to ask you to wait and see.
"We're not going to be at launch, just to temper the expectations," he added. "We're gonna cook something and it's gonna to take a while to cook."
Keiji Inafune created Mega Man, for what that's worth.
But before all that, Capcom will patch Resident Evil 5 to work with Sony's new motion-sensing toy, the PS3 magic wand. That's out this spring, although Sony's still not officially named the device.

Don't give them ideas! I like the G & G franchise the way it is i.e. old school and fun.

And what of franchises that haven't been used in a while? Oniumusha ran its course, and they clearly did try very hard to keep it going but the resultant game was a bastard child of mixed ideas - not knowing whether to go forwards, backwards or stay the same. Dino Crisis may make some sense but again, the idea ran its course (admittedly, Capcom ran it aground with the most stupid sequel idea ever but still...). It's not likely to be a fighting game (I don't even want to imagine how you'd go about playing a fighter without a controller...).
The elephant in the room is the Eyetoy, and whilst it did indeed have some fun games - let's be perfectly honest here, the majority of stuff for that device sucked more than Paris Hilton at a Mr Universe competition. It's an inescapable feeling that Natal is a bit of a non-starter and as Yahtzee said, a bit of a dead-end all told. Do MS think Natal will revolutionise gaming in quite the same way Nintendo did the last few years? It's a difficult debate.
I don't want Natal to fail, but equally I don't see the point of Natal. I'm not convinced it's aimed at gamers. I'm not convinced about it at all, and that's not being purposely negative because I love my 360 and the games I play on it regularly. It's going to take more than a revived franchise to get me on the Natal train... especially when you have the deep sinking feeling it may just be another on-railsy shooter affair...

U.N Squadron/Area 88 was based on a japanese manga from the 80's, so while I too love that game and would love to see a sequel, its highly unlikely, even though there was a reboot Area 88 anime series a few years ago.
@Kami
I feel the same about Natal. I understand the reason MS want to go there, but I'm scared that they are going to rely on it too much. I think the last thing we need is a flood of cheesy party games on 360, taking up the shelf space of solid, decent games. Once its out, I'll wait a few months before buying it, until I see some sweet games rise up.

until you get exhausted and have to sit down, but it would still be a grand 20 minutes.

Unlike the Wii then.
And they won't ditch it when their games fail.

Sorry mate, it was a SEGA title and I think SEGA long ago abandoned any hope of reviving it in glorious 3D... however, if you want a SoR game CLICK HERE. It's the fan remake that is practically near completion now, and probably the closest you'll ever get now to a new SoR game.
Capcom is promising not to treat Natal as a "gimmick"
I'm taking that with truckloads of salt. I know people are thumbing me down for this but come on, we've had 7 months of nothing but freaking hype now, and no solid results. The only example we've had was Burnout Paradise, which had some pretty severe interface lag issues, which was not a good and promising start in life. The demo at E3 was just that - tech demos, impressive but let's see some real-world examples please. I know people are easily taken in by hype but please, step back and think about it for a moment. Capcom this generation have been really freaking bad about this, they started off with a stonking example of the perfect Wii control system and have since done very little but release on-rails-****ing-shooters for it.
Even if Natal descends from heaven on the naked breasts of Kelly Brook, smothered in strawberry jam and singing the best songs of the last 25 years - and it may do yet - look at the Wii. That is a system that really has the potential for more. To do more. To be given more. And when it is given that chance, boy does it fly. And most developers have been arsing about with this whole "mature" and "casual" debate that they've forgotten that the Wii really could be/is a great platform for truly inspired games.
The reason I hold little hope out for Natal is it'll either not work very well, be cynically marketed (look, we've had to remove these features from Natal but in a year from release you'll be able to buy NATAL2, with all the functions back in! For more money! Yay!) or the developers will not have a clue what to do with it. The cynical marketing thing is sadly the most likely, and the reason why if you buy into NATAL now, when NATAL2 is announced with all the functions back in I reserve the right to point and laugh at you.
I really am that jaded these days. It's not NATAL's fault, not in the slightest, it's a potentially nifty bit of kit... I'm just not sure the market is in a prime position to do anything with it but make shit motion-control party games and the odd gimmick...

Mind you could just be another street fighter 2 (Natal super extreme reach around edition).
Power stone would be a good shout but 4 players waving their arms about in a cramped front room = real fight breaking out!
"Dinocrisis, where you get to punch those fucking dinosaurs." - yeah those f**cking dinosaurs. hehe
