Buffy coming back to life on DS News

DS News by Robert Purchese

11 July, 2008

505 Games is bringing Buffy back from the dead this November and putting her on the DS.

The deal with the telly show people means screenwriter Rob Deshotel is conjuring up a completely new story for the game. All the familiar faces such as Angel and Spike will be in it, and the plot is set some time after the seventh series ended.

Most of the focus will on be vanquishing vampires and duffing demons though, and Buffy gets to use spells and karate kicks and axes to do this. You get to swish a total of 20 weapons around and can use scenery to hit baddies with, too.

There are around 24 levels stretched across 12 locations in all, with each change of scenery culminating in a big boss battle.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for 505 Games and we're working extremely closely with Fox to ensure this is the definitive Buffy the Vampire Slayer experience," said Rowan Tafler from 505 Games.

"Buffy's return to videogames is great for long-time fans of the franchise and we hope the huge market reach of the Nintendo DS will help to create new fans too."

Creep over to our Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Sacrifice gallery for the first shots.

Fang you.

Does the fact that this is a western developed 505 game mean that it might actually get a proper release over here?
505 games in "getting act together" shocker :)

Joss Whedon needs to get his ass back in the production seat. There can never be enough Joss on the TV.

I want to know who the big bad is though.. some random vamp/demon or something from the Buffsters past?

Also, gonna be tricky getting Spike in the game post-season 7. He was dead for a while, then a ghost, then somewhat occupied at W&H.. then last seen running at an army of demons..

Staking a claim eh. I wonder if the game will have a real bite to it, or if it will just turn out to be a pain in the neck...

I believe so, well he's writing them from what I read. I downloaded the first few Season 8 of Buffy's, basically ends up with Buffy being in charge of the army of potential slayers, commanding them from a castle in Scotland while avoiding the attentions of an Initiative style military organisation. Big bads so far appear to be Amy and Warren in that...

Yes the new seasons for Buffy and Angel in graphic novel are canon with Joss overseeing their production.

Yes, it's definitely getting a UK release over here. :) It's being developed almost exclusively with the UK market in mind, would you believe?

yeah, the first part of buffy season 8 kinda sucked, too much of a tour of all the old stuff.. it was pretty much a roll call of everyone that was liked in the tv series.. apparently it gets better though..

shame this new game looks crap
