BlazBlue coming to PSP in Japan

Tip-top fighter set to go portable.

Arc System Works has announced that BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger is coming to PSP.

At least that's the case in Japan, where it's due out on 25th February. There's no word on whether the game will also make it to the US and Europe.

All 12 characters from the original version will feature and up to four players will be able to battle it out in ad-hoc mode. The new Legion mode will see you manoeuvring round a map, knocking out enemies as you fight for turf.

BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger is already available for PS3 and Xbox 360, and scored an impressive 9/10 from Eurogamer back in August. Read our review for the full lowdown.

I posted about this in the forums yesterday and my initial reaction still stands... fighting games on the PSP generally suck. As much as I love BB, and I really do love it, the PSP version will be a watered down affair with crippled controls.

Plus, how the hell do I attach my arcade stick to the PSP?

Well, sure... But then again the last couple Guilty Gear games for PSP were pretty spectacularly good, control issues duly noted, so I have carefully high hopes for BB as well.

What are you talking about? Fighting games on the psp rule. Get youself a slim and lite or anything other than a phat with its hopeless dpad.

Street Fighter Alpha, Soul Calibur, Tekken, Guilty Gear. All awesome.

Blazblue available in the UK in 2010; it's not released over here yet on 360.

Add Darkstalkers to that list. The best 2D fighter ever in my opinion and criminally underrated. The PSP version is surely the ultimate version available (I say that as an owner of nearly all the games, PAL and import) and one of the reasons I bought the system. Plays flawlessly on my 3000 model PSP - need to stick with the ancient crippled model if you love fighters.

The PSP has a good number of brilliant fighters ....Tekken Dark Ressurrection ,Soul Calibur BD ,Final Fantasy Dissidia ,Streetfighter Alpha 3 ,Darkstalkers ,Guilty Gear ,soon Tekken 6.

It would be a dream handheld for fighters if only online, social and bluetooth->mobile features had been implemented a little better.

As things stand - it's great if you have a second PSP and a second copy of the game... or, er, some other method of getting the game onto 2 PSPs in the same place at the same time...
