Bejeweled sales reach 50m worldwide

Puzzle game is 10 years old today.

PopCap has announced that gem-swapping puzzle game Bejeweled has sold over 50 million units.

That apparently makes the game one of the top five best-sellers ever - a position it may improve one as a new copy is sold every 4.3 seconds.

Bejeweled turned 10 years old today, and PopCap will celebrate this birthday for the next 10 months. During that time we'll be given a new way to play Bejeweled Blitz plus be invited in on numerous competitions and promotions.

Bejeweled started life as Diamond Mine and now, 10-years later and 350 million downloads later, the game has been ported to just about every platform: iPhone, XBLA and even aeroplane consoles.

    Nice one PopCap - it's amazing that, years ago, many of us "hardcore" gamers would have thumbed our noses at such casual fare - but now, we (mostly) recognise it for the genius that it really is...

    50 Million! Thats amazing, got the iphone version and I have to say its one of the better casual games you can get.

    Couldn't of put it better myself! Honestly i pick this up for a quick go and the next minute it's an hour later! Worst thing is my dad nicks my iphone when i go round to bloody play this! Can't get it back off him.

    Just come back from a ten minute bog break at work (just went for a piss then ended up playing Bejeweled 2 on my iPhone for ages) to see this article - what a game! Digital crack indeed!

    I had to remove the Bejeweled addon they made for WoW: It was just ridiculous, if I wasn't logging in to play WoW I was logging in to play a quick game of Bejeweled.

    Was great for scanning the AH though.

    Loving the toilet comments! If I played bejeweled on the bog at work I would be on the pan all day - slippery slope man!
