Bayonetta heads PS3 Store refresher

Video Store and VidZone restocked too.

A demo for PlatinumGames' superb third-person action game Bayonetta is star attraction this week on the PlayStation Store.

There's a sampler for LittleBigPlanet on PSP that shouldn't be overlooked either.

There's also new content for Fight Night Round 4, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, Need for Speed: Shift and of course Rock Band and Guitar Hero.

The European PlayStation blog has this week's full and lengthy list.

The PSN Video Store has also been updated with various films to buy or rent, and Sony's '80s-styled VidZone has welcomed numerous bits and pieces you can swat up on over on the blog.

Bayonetta: European demo looks better than the Japanese one :/
  • Zanuah #2 2 years ago

Does it really? Don't think I noticed... Could be though, it's not unheard of for games to get "improved" when released in the west. I am pretty sure however that the load times were quite a lot shorter.
  • NotSoSlim #3 2 years ago

Yea it does. Potentially good news for full release

I notice there's a competition to win a signed copy of Bayonetta. Signed by whom? A made-up video-game character? Or one of the developers? Form a queue!

Good news if they've improved the final code for EU release. It's not like me to pass over a DMC-alike game.

PS3 demo looks better than the 360 demo, not what I expected after all the negative hype from Kamiya downwards. Some desk of Sega engineers has busted a gut to get this out. Let's hope the whole game is of similar quality.
  • Widge #7 2 years ago

I saw a DF tweet saying that he didn't notice much difference between the demos.

Bayonetta sucks. Hate the fucking art. Needs moar ninja gaiden.

    @Nutty_Nick
I said the exact same thing last time. Havent enjoyed so much a game of the kind ever since the first DMC more or less.

    @antasari
Its still douptable if its actually better from the jap PS3 demo itself and you went as far as confirming thats even better from the 360 one? nice... Just allow me to call BS on that one for understandable reasons. If you are corrent glad to hear though thats for sure cause its a great game.
  • NotSoSlim #11 2 years ago

Fps check remains the same but it seemed good to me anyway :o)

The cutscenes look a little blurrier than they could be, but apart from that I couldn't see anything in the PS3 demo that would prevent me from picking Bayonetta up in January. Sure, if you take screenshots and enlarge them next to a 360 comparison, it might prove disappointing, but as I was playing though it I didn't have time to take stock and go 'ooh, that texture on the wall looks shit compared to the other console's version'. I didn't encounter any frame rate issues either.

By the way, you swat flies, but you swot up on information.

After playing the ps3 demo at home (admittedly, in SD :( ) and the 360 version at the EG expo, all i really noticed was:

Its not quite as colourful and a bit blurrier, and that the butterfly wings she sprouts in a double jump weren't as transparent as the 360 version.

Consider this my DF job application :D

Anything that gives me a new excuse to watch that excellently freaky Windowlicker video again is great. If you haven't seen it yet, check it out.

As for Bayonetta, yeah, if you told me it was a DMC spin-off, I'd have believed you instantly. Especially the PS3 demo that begins from the trainstation ... However, crucially the main character isn't nearly as cool, imho. Fighting seems a bit better though, but so far I think I prefer the original DMC over this.

Finally, tearing is terrible on the PS3 version. Really quite aweful (when playing in 720p HD). There's a rumor that Sony coders are trying to help out, but I doubt they'll be able to fix anything on such short notice. But then this is definitely not a game for me - if I want something like this, I'll wait for God of War to do it right. ;)

I wasn't blown away by the demo but excessive screen tearing equals instant no purchase for me anyway. :p
  • Zebula77 #18 2 years ago

Bayonetta looked good, alright. Some screen tearing was the only drawback I could spot. No frame-rate issues at least. The game itself didn't seem all that impressive. Like DMC 4 with an overtly sexual lady character. I found her prancing about laughable to be honest. Fun for a short while, but I certainly don't see it as a 9/10 game. The GoW III demo was way, wayyyy more impressive.

US Store had a demo of Fairytale Fights which was beyond crappy tho. Just a white room and a bunch of enemies to slaughter. As a demonstration of what the full game will be like, it's a total failure.

I too was fearing the worst after all the negatives being cast at the ps3 version but all my concerns evaporated after playing the ps3 demo. Most fun I've had with a game in ages.Loved it.

I played the demo fromt the Japanese PS store the other week and wasn't impressed on a technical level, however I decided to download it from the UK store and I noticed a distinct difference in performance, I'm certain I'm not imagining it. Apart from some slight screen tear it was much smoother (felt like 60fps) and visually appealing.

Have they actually tweaked it since complaints regarding the Japanese version?
  • Cappy #21 2 years ago

If that's supposed to be an improvement I dread to think what the Japanese demo was like. I'm just glad there was a demo to make sure I steered clear of Bayonetta.

Besides the ever present tearing, the highly variable framerate was very noticable, the overall blurred, indistinct look of the PS3 version made it very difficult to even see what was going on in fights.

PS3 version may be improved before US/EU release...

Tried the demo. Seems a really good game, but my word it could do with a worthy port. Spinning the camera at the very start of the demo immediately reveals tearing and judders. You don't need DF wizardry to spot the flaws. Assasins Creed deja vu...but...

Was still impressed by the gameplay, the combat, and the crazy ass over the topness of everything. The overall experience I had was in a strange way very slick despite the technical flaws. It's a pity it's not anywhere near as slick as it should be :(

Played the demo, a ton of ugly screen tearing, half-a$$ effort from SEGA and P*. (and also a very good advert for 360)
