Atari picks up Smash Court Tennis 3

Serving to Europe in June.

Atari has picked up the rights to Smash Court Tennis 3 and will be serving it to Europe in June.

This Namco Bandai-take on the pleated-skirt sport is exclusive to Xbox 360 and outfitted with 16 of the most famous faces around: Roger Federer, Maria Sharapova, Rafael Nadal, Sue Barker, Cliff Richard, and so forth.

It boasts fancy graphics and plenty of customisation ranging from rackets to shoes and hair to skin.

Four of you can play offline together, or you can pop on Live to take part in rankings or team up with a friend for a spot of doubles. Otherwise there are Tutorial, Arcade and Pro-Tour modes to enjoy.

Smash Court Tennis 3 is already out in Japan, where it it scored 32/40 in Famitsu 360.

It was released on PSP last year and got a decent 7/10 from us. However, Smash Court Tennis 3 has stiff competition in Virtua Tennis and Top Spin 3.

Pop over to our Smash Court Tennis 3 gallery for an idea of what to expect.

It's taken long enough. I guess they've been waiting for Wimbledon to roll around again.

The psp one is pretty good. At least lobs work, unlike virtua tennis.

Lobs work alright in multiplayer in VT3. Impossible to lob the CPU though.

Noticed one of the screens is of Martina Hingis as well, who's retired in the time it's taken them to bring this over here.

I have the Japanese 360 version. It is okay but i find it bit boring plus the online servers are empty! :(

I've already decided to get Top Spin 3 (just noticed this - SCT3 - is limited to one platform, anyway! 0_o)).

That game looks brilliant, from the Gametrailers footage; nice in motion, and some brief research shows that it has the features I'm looking for, both online and off. Go 2k!

Could tennis be any more boring?

"That game looks brilliant, from the Gametrailers footage"

It looks like Top Spin 2, which was crap. The animation is awful.

Well, I'm no tennis game aficionado, so, I've not played one in a while (and when I did, it certainly didn't look anything like TS3), and I was going to consider the featured one, here - except the publisher made my decision hugely more simple! - but my choice looks as good of a representation of the game as any, with promising features, on a system I own, and it looks good fun to me.
I can't speak for your expectations, but I think TS3 will be a good buy.

only if it was somehow combined with golf

I was excited until I realised it doesn't look like the PS1 Smash Court Tennis game that had Anna Kournikova plastered all over it in Europe. Sensible Tennis, anyone?

Kournikova's Smash Court Tennis was the best iteration of the game. Awesome party modes, great gameplay, guest characters and a ton of stuff to do. Every SCT after that has been rather crap frankly. So i'm not too bummed out that it's gone 360 exclusive, though Namco still suck monkey balls...or microsoft's balls I guess.

I miss the original Top Spin on Xbox...
