Panzer Drags on

Japanese launch this week, new shots to celebrate

With only a few days to go before the Japanese release of Panzer Dragoon ORTA, Microsoft and Sega are crossing their fingers in hope of a greater uptake than recent titles - including Murakumo and Blinx - have achieved. Plans include a limited edition white Xbox (of which only 1,000 will be made available - a grab for publicity, or a frank assessment of sales potential?) and a huge marketing campaign focusing on the return of Sega to the skies.

Closer to home though, Infogrames continues to dripfeed details into our inboxes. The game is now due out in March as we reported on Friday, and its European publisher has finally released some reasonably sized shots of the game in motion, although they're still about twice the resolution we expect. Thankfully though, they're not quite the wall drapes we've become accustomed to. Check them out here, and polish off those Dragoons in preparation for ORTA's coming.

Didn't SEGA decide not to have format exclusive games recently? If so, then surely sooner or later, an inferior port will turn up on the PS2?

It would've been a very big deal if Sega had insisted that all it's AM divisions worked multiformat from now on, seeing as it's usually down to the invididual divisions to decide which platforms to develop for. I'd have expected to have heard it if Sega had gone over the heads of their individual AM divisions.

I wish them luck, releasing this so close after the zelda date was risky to say the least.

Hmm... Sega must be the biggest "niche" games developer ever. It disappoints me that a company like Sega can try so hard with little financial reward. I guess that's what happens when you try and be a little different.

What's the betting this one's verdict will be: Beautiful, fun, over too soon?

didnt Famitsu xbox award it 38/40? either famitsu has gone downhill or its one hell of a game.
  • Pirotic #7 9 years ago

Famitsu basically get every review first, and there scores have always been almost spot on. sadly its now been devided into the formats, with different editors and reviewers for each, which just encourages biased reviews.

It got 35/40 in Weekly Famitsu (multiformat)

thanks, thats pretty good. i'll keep an eye open on this one.

was playing the Saturn version a few days ago for old times sake, were graphics really that ugly? i love the way they try to do a water rippling effect, you can almost hearing the machine crunching with the strain.

The saturn version was a classic for its time but yep, next gen graphics have kinda spoilt the rose-coloured view I had of a lot of old games. I even find it tough going back to play anything on the DC now...

Peej, most games on the DC are as pretty as anything on the 'next gen' machines - Soul Calibur, Ikaruga etc.
  • pjmaybe #12 9 years ago

Actually Soul Calibur is miraculously good looking, even now...damned good game to show the DC off. Never got Ikaruga though. Played MSR though the other day and it looked a bit chunky.

True, early 3D PSX titles have suffered far more than the old 16 bit games.
