Alan Wake to resurface this week News

Xbox 360 PC News by Robert Purchese

1 October, 2008

Psychological thriller Alan Wake may be shown off in a new trailer at the Finnish premiere of the Max Payne film on 15th October.

That's according to Finnish site Pelaaja which, according to a VG247 source, is not telling porky pies. Not only that, but Pelaaja is also said to have fresh Alan Wake information due for publication on Friday.

Alan Wake, a console exclusive for Xbox 360 (oh and PC), withdrew from the public eye after a glorious unveiling at E3 2005. The game once carried a release date of "sometime in 2007".

We feared the worst, but Finnish developer Remedy Entertainment popped up recently to assure us everything is fine; it's just been a bit trickier than first expected.

They're probably just trying to optimise it for each of the Xbox's red rings.

Everyone keeps saying how great and faithful Max Payne looks but am I the only one who spotted those dark angel things?

Not at all Ninja-T. That said it's not bad looking so far regardless, and they appear to be more a visual metaphor - but we'll see.

As for Alan Wake, it's had what - less that ten, maybe fifteen screenshots and a couple of videos release YEARS ago and the developers have barely said zip. The hype was all community and media driven. I'm looking forward to seeing what the creators of the great Max Payne 2 are onto now. Should at least prove interesting!

Yeah i noticed that, but when i brought it up in another forum i was just told to STFU because i hadnt seen the film, something about a V trip. Who knows, guess we'll see when the movie comes out. I am not holding much hope.

Re-watched the trailer for this last week actually and was amazed that the footage (seemingly all real time) was for an (at the time) first gen 360 title. Here's hoping that those extra 4 years in dev have produced something special, i was mindful the trailer was perhaps making it feel a little too Silent Hill alike.

Hardly comparable to Haze seeing as the makers aren't shooting their mouths out.

And it's in a different genre.

Hype for Alan Wake didn't come from screenshots or videos, but the premise of the game and the kind of attitude the makers were showing towards developing the game. It sounded (and still sounds) fantastic, to me at least.

Also, I've heard rumours (can't remember from where) about Max Payne 3. That would also tickle my fancy. Tickle it hard.

I feel as if I've been waiting for Alan Wake for ever. It was in development even before the Xbox 360 was released, wasn't it? Hopefully be better than the broken crap-fest that was Alone in the Dark.

I think this is yet another advert for not displaying/revealing your game until it is in such a state where you can more or less fix a release period (i.e. a year/season), otherwise people reach such a state over the game that we're almost bored of it even before it's been released.

But anyway, this looks great and I hope the finished game is good.

@ Ninja_Tino : The Max Payne storylines both centred around that designer drug, Valkyr, which causes a lot of junkies to sit there mumbling to themselves about angels.

I'm guessing the angel things in the trailers are valkyr-driven hallucinations.

I'd leave the film alone until you get a chance to see it. As for Alan Wake, I love Max Payne to death (top 2 or 3 games of all time) and I think AW looked wonderful all those years ago. Remedy's never made anything less than great, so I'm very optimistic.

Thought this game was silently put to sleep, if they release it some time soon I'd be happily surprised. Didn't MP2 also just pop up and get released without that much time to build hype?

Whoooooooooo cares! I hate the way game developers mess ALL of us around with release dates! This was "meant" to be released on Xbox 360 Launch day! These sort of things (that have little or no substance) are designed to hype up the game - and i bet it doesnt get launched for another two to three years.
