Alan Wake info promises rubbished News

Xbox 360 PC News by Robert Purchese

7 April, 2008

Moderators on the official Alan Wake forums have clarified that they have no idea when the media "blackout" on the title will end.

So much for the initial promise the blackout "won't continue for too much longer", which sent the Internet bananas earlier.

Now forum boss "ADM" has stated, "Just an announcement to everyone that this is not news and we don't know when the media blackout is to end.

"Please continue to be patient and when we do know something we will post it up... Don't read into comments too much."

Apparently even when Remedy is ready to speak the information will be sparse, in a bid to keep the suspense around the game.

"One thing I do know, is that Remedy does not wish to spoil the experience for players by revealing too much before its release," said moderator "Morry". "Due to the nature of the game, building up suspense is a key part, so there are plenty of reasons to leave parts of the game hidden until we can get our hands on it."

Alan Wake is a psychological thriller based around a novelist being tormented by a sleepless world of nightmares, and has been hidden from public view since its unveiling at E3 2005.

Microsoft had previously talked about it as a 2008 title, although Microsoft Game Studios boss Shane Kim was recently reluctant to confirm it will be out this year. It will be "very different" and "very ambitious", though, according to Kim.

Pop over to our Alan Wake gamepage for a roundup of what we know so far.

Their official news page is brightfalls.net. Not exactly much in the way of game info there though. As you'd probably guess from this article.

I will tell you three things. If I tell them to you, and they come true, then will you believe me?
The first thing I will tell you is: there is a man in a smiling bag.
The second thing is: the owls are not what they seem.
The third thing is: without chemicals, he points.

The didn't release any info until the very last minute for either Max Payne of Max Payne 2. In fact the latter basically popped up from out of nowhere. So it's not big suprise.

Goodfella needs some educatin'.

Through the darkness of future past, the magician longs to see. One chants out between two worlds: "Fire Walk With Me". We lived among the people — I think you say "convenience store"? We lived above it. I mean it like it is, like it sounds. My name is Mike. His name is BOB.

When I first saw this game I was competely blown away by how good it looked, and I think anyone who is still anticipating it is doing so based on that intial feeling.

Go back and look at the screenshots, and then think of COD4. The graphics are no longer head and shoulders above anything we've seen before. They look pretty good, granted, but they're already starting to look par for the course for a AAA title.

It's gonna have to be damn good to live up to itself now.

As long as your not really in some wierd science lab with Veronica Mars, using a machine which follows the gentic memories of Mr Wake I'm happy. In all seriousness though the way Haze has gone from "OMG HAZE!" to "meh" and simularly with Too Human I can understand companies not wanting to peak to early.

Apple pie anyone?

CHERRY pie.

tsk, tsk. But seriously, 3 or 4 years is not such an unusual length of time for an original IP game to be in development these days.

Edit: whoops, skim reading doesn't work when people write stuff backwards, sorry Jontacular

If you've not seen Twin Peaks, you need some Twin Peaks in your life.

But start from the beginning and keep Fire Walk With Me for the end. Don't think you can jump in with the movie with the idea that it'll catch you up on things, because you'll give away the best bits of the series and confuse yourself more than watching Inland Empire. Best series ever, imo, well... at least up there with Band of Brothers, Firefly and BSG plus the first series' of Lost, 24 and Heroes.

Obviously going to be released September-November 2008. Just announce the date already!

Oh and graphically the best thing ever, it looked amazing 3 years ago, god-knows what it's going to look like now!

Bah, who cares if it's delayed. I don't even care if the graphics look a bit dated, and I'm something of a GFX whore.

This sounds amazing, and I'm still eagerly anticipating it, even if I'm trying not to think about it (if it's even possible to do both those things at once).

paukl made a good point, I just looked back over the pics of Alan Wake in Eurogamer's gallery, I haven't looked at 'em for bloody yonks, and like he said they aren't quite as impressive as I remember.
Well it's not that they're awful or anything but they're basically on par with a lot of other stuff that's either already out or coming soon.
Still very much wanting the game though, I loved both Max Paynes, even though numero 2 was criminally short.
