Sony confirms global PS3 price cut

Update: UK price cut is £199.

Update: Sony has told Eurogamer the UK PS3 price will drop to £199.

Original story: Sony has confirmed a global price cut for the PS3.

The new price will be €249, $249 and 24,980 Yen. No UK price was given.

Amazon.co.uk has already set the ball rolling, however, dropping the UK PS3 price to £215 for the 320GB PS3 and to £192 for the 160GB PS3.

    For some reason i though you could already get a ps3 for £199, maybe it was a special offer

    Anyway ill be getting one later in the year if i see a deal for £170

    250 GB 360 console has been close to £150 at times over the months. Such a bargain. Think the 4GB is dead. Can't imagine them making more of those unless they want to start selling the Xbox for £99.

    Last gen was dirt cheap by this time. £200 is still up there but nice hardware.

    Tesco direct right now are selling 360 (250gb) for £150 and ps3 160gb for £195

    PS3 is well worth the price. TBH, i'm suprised that its at £199 now, I was expecting maybe to £170-£180. Now Microsoft will no doubt counter this, and Sony could of sold a few more consoles at £170-£180. Still, great console and its definately worth it.

    I seriously doubt 250 euroes for a five year old console will win anybody that hasn't bought it yet over. Not me at least. I already own 2 consoles, not gonna spend 250 for a third one.

    When the VAT was still 17.5% the PS3 RRPs were £250 for the 160GB (previously 120GB) and £285 for the 320GB (previously 250GB).

    Am I really the only one thinking the whiners should STFU, if the RRP drops then the selling price will drop (maybe by the same amount, maybe not) So if you can buy one now for £199 expect to see them selling for a good £30 (?) less than that...

    I'd really like to see the price of games drop, £40 is just too much these days. I seem to remember PS2 games dropping to £30 after a few years of the console, any chance of that happening yet?

    Thats good cos u can buy a 250gb xbox slim here in ireland for €180 now. Mite pick me up a ps3 again since I sold mine to go traveling...

    P.S. I paid E680 for my ps3 the day it came out, so i dont think the price now is too bad at all...

They were already outselling 360 this year again without a pricecut, get some perspective mate there just consoles and your missing out by pretending you think all PS3 games are crap even when you havent played them. If you cant afford to thats fine there luxury items it is excessive to own both really, just enjoy what youve got and let other people do the same.

    So the RRP will be set at £199 right? Which should mean stores should be competing at a price somewhere between £150 -£170 over Christmas. £200 should get you a fairly decent bundle.
