GoldenEye 007 Reloaded announced

PS3 and Xbox 360 game out this year.

GoldenEye 007 Reloaded launches for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this autumn, Activision has announced.

It is a high definition remake of last year's Wii game, GoldenEye 007.

Developer Eurocom has created a brand new game engine to craft the game. The UK studio began this work last year as it was making the Wii title.

Included is revamped AI and better graphics. It runs at a sparkling 60 frames per second, too.

Standalone challenge missions, collectively called M16 Ops, have been added. This online leaderboard-fuelled extra adds over ten hours of gameplay, Activision said.

Elimination is a timed-based mission. Assault sees you attack a base. Stealth is for fans of quiet killing. And Wave Defense, which does exactly what it says on the tin.

Online has room for 16 players across 10 maps. Split-screen multiplayer is also included. Multiplayer modes are under wraps, although Activision is leaning towards James Bond being a spy in this area.

Also added is the Challenge Mission Designer, which allows players to apply modifiers to online game modes. Paintball, Golden Gun and Exploding Heads feature.

Eurogamer saw a pre-alpha build of the game last week, and played the Severnaya level updated and improved.

Comparisons with Activision's own Call of Duty series are sure to be made, but according to producer James Steer, gamers will be able to tell the difference.

"Because it's a first-person shooter and because Call of Duty is one of the biggest FPS brands it's inevitable," Steer told Eurogamer.

"The Severnaya level is similar to some of the snowing levels. But because we have James Bond as a character, and because we try and drive that home to you – when you see the start of a mission you're seeing the Bond model – and then you're getting reinforced with Daniel Craig's VO and Judi Dench talking to you, it's reinforcing the fact you're playing as James Bond in a James Bond adventure.

"That's a challenge for sure, but it's something we're working on."

Eurogamer's GoldenEye 007 Reloaded preview is now live.

Seeing how i missed to buy the Wii Version, and not liking motion controls in FPS-es anyways, i'll probably buy that instead
  • mooseti #2 10 months ago

    Meh. No one cares.
  • EMULOUS #3 10 months ago

Its only going up against the new COD and Battlefield 3. Good luck with that shit.

Liked the Wii version but not sure if I would double dip, Move support on the PS3 version might sway me though.

I loved the Wii and will probably pick this up.

Bought this for Wii but barely played it. Motion controls didn't feel right and gotta be honest couldn't get passed the graphics. The framerate in mp was also very poor. Tempted by this but a shame it'd out this year

Wii version was excellent, although I played it for the most part with the classic controller without motion controls. Not sure if I would pick this one up though.

I know companies are re-hashing and remaking games from years gone by, but a remake of a game that came out within the last 18 months!!!
They say that creativity is dead!!!

It has Move support - confirmed by other gaming website.

When the rumours first surfaced wasn't PC getting this to? Is that not the case now or is it another Acti "yeah we got a PC version but you sure as hell won't be able to buy it anywhere" like a great deal of their titles.

Shame if it is only for the consoles as I was well up for this.

Yay, now all the previous "TH1S IZ CR4P ITZ oN TEH WII" haters will suddenly become excited about it.

The framerate fell to pieces on the last mission where you're protecting Natalya, it'll be nice to play that at 60.

I wouldn't think Move feature be a winning feature but sure far better accuracy than Wiimote, as I preferred to play with classic controller.

So down your preferred controller on either system, as with Killzone 3, Move is nice but waving my arms about throughout the campaign or resting with DualShock3... That more like it for FPS for me.

    Great in short bursts...

I imagine they're called MI6 Ops, as in the government division Bond works for, not M16 Ops, as in the gun.

I also imagine that should I check the comments again later today the article will say MI6 and my comment will look somewhat stupid.

I loved the Wii version and played a lot of the surprisingly versatile (for the wii) online multiplayer, so I may buy this again.

My only concern is that the game doesn't really have any of the pomp and spectacle that MW3 or Battlefield 3 appear to have. What was fun and retro/nostalgic on the wii might not transfer so well onto the HD consoles.

Balls. I just payed a decent amount for the Wii version as (probably) my last Wii purchase before getting Zelda SS and then selling the dusty old thing.

It was an absolutely competent, yet stunningly unimaginative shooter to be honest - a lot like the solid yet ho-hum Quantum Solace on 360/PS3. It featured some very decent SD graphics (wasn't there a rumour that some of the Dead Space Extraction team worked on this?) and the odd nice-open ended levels.

The best compliment I could give it was that moving between stealth and all-out gun play was smooth and seamless, and it nicked a few ideas from Splinter Cell conviction (hacking cameras, alerting 'elite' soldiers if you gave the game away...). The rest of the game consisted of identikit underground bunkers and empty featureless side rooms that served no useful gameplay or narrative purpose.

I'm not sure an HD remake will improve any of this, apart from the creaky framerate. Of course, most of us have 2-4 Xbox controllers these days, but not 4 remotes and 4 nunchucks/classic controllers, so we'll actually use the split screen!!

The Wii version is great - so I wont be picking this up for the HD machines having played through it. But if you don't have a wii, you are in for a treat.
  • monty2k #20 10 months ago

    @robbiejc85:

Dead Space Extraction was co-developed by Eurocom and Goldeneye 007 does use a modified version of that engine.

This is the first time I see someone complaining about upgraded graphics and AI. A rushed port with Wii graphics would've been so much better. Damn them for wanting to make their game even better.
  • Seoh #22 10 months ago

I suspect they are called MI6 ops not M16.
  • Fawad450 #23 10 months ago

Not bothered, with gears 3 , rage , dark souls n skyrim coming out, this wont sell enough.
  • Ashcroft #24 10 months ago

A remake of a cynical attempt to cash in on a better game's reputation? Pass.
  • Acrid #25 10 months ago

M16 Ops surely you mean MI6 Ops, but then this is Call of Duty right....

"Comparisons with Activision's own Call of Duty series are sure to be made, but according to producer James Steer, gamers will be able to tell the difference.

"Because it's a first-person shooter and because Call of Duty is one of the biggest FPS brands it's inevitable," Steer told Eurogamer.
    "

What? You mean not all FPS are Call of Duty? What the hell? This information is staggering, I just can't take it in.
Anyway, when I can I be looking at handing over my £54.99 for Call of Duty 007?

Had the Wii version and wasn't super impressed. I was looking forward to some simple, old-school run and gun action, but they seemed to be trying to fill everything with modern set pieces. The game wanted desperately to be a CoD but the set pieces were underwhelming and just kept breaking up the flow of the game. It all felt much more pre-scripted than the one man army, sneaking around a base that I loved about the original. So neither new enough compete with modern games, nor close enough to the original to tickle my nostalgia.

Not terrible, but a lot more comfortable on the Wii where there's less competition, than on the HD machines, where it has to compete with Bioshock, Fear, CoD, Battlefield, etc etc.
