Boulder Dash XL XBLA release date
Dig in next month.
Retro puzzle game Boulder Dash XL launches on Xbox Live Arcade on 13th July, Kalypso Media has announced.
It costs 800 Microsoft Points. A PC version launches "later in the summer".
Boulder Dash XL, developed by German developer Catnip Games, offers 150 levels, online leaderboards and five separate game modes: arcade, retro, zen, puzzle and time challenge.
Created by lone Canadian programmer Peter Liepa, Boulder Dash was first sighted on the Atari 400 back in 1984.
It's had countless sequels and reboots since, most recently with the enjoyable Boulder Dash: Rocks! on the DS in 2007.

Edited to add: Oh, you meant that Repton, not Rockford, was meant to be an ant? Yeah, sounds logical.

Anyway, I had Boulder Dash on the Atari and I'm always disappointed when I see the original C64 version is released because the graphic weren't as good as the Atari version.
But this looks good. It would be good to have a mode with the original graphics. The original Atari graphics that is.

And for the purists- don't sweat the graphics. Better or worse, it's largely irrelevant. This game would work if it were painted with asterisks and ampersands and exclamation points. (There were probably dozens of clones that were.)

I'd definitely love to see the Repton series on XBLA though!

it's just the same idea but done much better (repton 1, at least. the sequels lost their way)

Atari version was "the original", and Peter Liepa didn't even have anything to do with the ports. On C64 the colors sucked by comparison (not much of a palette to work with) the sound was weak and the timing was even off.
/Atari 8-bit fanboy + Boulder Dash purist.
