Square Enix not behind Carmageddon

Reboot an independent project, report says.

The Carmageddon reboot that emerged last week is an independent project, a new report claims.

Square Enix, which is registered to the countdown website, has nothing to do with the game, VG247 reports.

"While the new game's developer is not confirmed, original studio Stainless is now concerned with producing downloadable titles based on existing IP, such as Magic: The Gathering and Risk," reads the site.

The Carmageddon IP rights have been negotiated away from Square Enix, owner of Eidos. This new game will be revealed on 1st June, ahead of E3.

I'd rather it be made by Stainless.

Why the negging of JamieR? I would also rather the original developers were producing this rather than a new team. Many of the people at Stainless are the same staff who were there in the Carmageddon days (I know someone who worked there until recently), and Carmageddon had a very particular tone and humour in its presentation and dialogue. Generally the best people to recreate that are the people who created it the first time around.

edit: JamieR no longer negged. Great success.

I just hope it is like Carmageddon and not Carmageddon 2 or TDR 2000. I want high quality sprites and lots of them. Give me a stadium full of people to drive over.

As long as it's like Carmageddon or Carmageddon 2 I'm a happy lad.

If it's like TDR2000 then I not wanting to get it.
