Dead Rising 2, Lost Planet 2 sales

Plus, Super Street Fighter IV does well.

Capcom has revealed sales figures of its major games during the nine months to 31st December 2010.

Zombie tear-em-up Dead Rising 2 has sold 2.2 millions to date. Super Street Fighter IV has sold 1.6 million, and Lost Planet 2 has shifted 1.5.

In its financial report Capcom noted that the "steady sales" of Lost Planet 2 were below projections.

All games sales, however, were dwarfed by those of PSP game Monster Hunter Freedom 3 (Monster Hunter Portable 3rd on these shores), which has shifted a whopping 4.1 million units in Japan alone. Guess that means it's been a success, then.

It contributed to profits up 294 per cent to 6.83 billion yen (£51.7m / $83.9m) for the first nine months of the year. Sales for the period were 70.77 billion (£535.7m / ($868.8m), an increase of 41.6 per cent.

I'm always secretly happy when a title with a huge marketing push (Lost Planet 2) falls under expectations, and huge sales end up coming from somewhere they probably never expected (Monster Hunter) :D

LP2 is a great title. I'm also looking forward to more Akrid bashing on the NGP.

Lost Planet 2 is one of the worst games ive payed this gen. Im surprised it sold as many as it did. Shame as I really liked the original too.

SSFIV is awesome though & should have sold a lot more.

    @Vertical Stand

I'm talking about the original Monster Hunter - I'm sure Capcom never expected it to be the absolutely huge hit it has become.

And I certainly don't wish a poor game to get good sales just so they can make a sequel. That's basically the exact opposite of what I want.

Lost Planet still hasn't worked for them.

I quite liked LP2 in single player, the multiplayer is your typical spawn, die, spawn die, spawn, kill, die clusterfuck completely bereft of any tactical challenge.

Dead Rising 2 was another great outing for Capcom this year, not enough games this gen with true replay value so Dead Rising 2 was refreshing this regard.

Funny thing is, I don't usually get on with sequels if I haven't played the first instalment yet I really enjoyed both LP2 and DR2. Hopefully Capcom will look past the titles that don't meet up to expectations and remember those that exceed them. The last thing we need is publishers getting wound up on what could have been and becoming even more risk averse in process.

LP2 co-op is a blast. On the whole the game just feels hard to access for various reason like poor menus and niche control mechanisms

"My point was that Lost Planet 2 failing isn't a good or bad thing in itself, but it could end up being so costly a failure that it causes Capcom to give up on the series. Which would be a great shame as Lost Planet is has at its heart full of the barmy brilliance that defines the best Capcom games"

but you could say that about most mediocre games by their definition they are okay games with some nice ideas that don't really pan out. Why flog a dead horse instead of moving on to something new?

SSFIV is awesome though & should have sold a lot more.

Capcom said they were extremely happy with that number and had projected much less. It didn't really need to do SF4 numbers since it was just an expansion, had lower development outlay on it and sold at a lower price at launch. Its probably doing even more since its included in a lot of budget lines at stores now (HMV constantly have it in their "2 for £30 promotion) and probably enough to launch the Arcade Edition DLC and have a lot of people buy that.

Mind you, they could have the Market on lock with Marvel Vs Capcom 3 in the west and Monster Hunter in the east in the next year as well.

    Capgod rises again?

Oh look, used games are killing the industry and yet capcoms profits are through the roof on games that dont ave any shitty 'online pass' bullshit.

Guess making decent games will guarantee you a better return than trying to take away your customers consumer rights.

"To come good next time around. Iteration, refinement, testing, the blockbuster boom and bust where if something fails its a financial disaster makes it harder for developers to try things out. Street Fighter 2 would never have happened had it been written off after the first one."

Eh? the first game got a Meta of late seventies then the sequel got a meta of 68 two figures I agree with in my experience of both games. It's not like the games are original they are largely just another 3rd person shooter. Essentially the series is going nowhere.

it would be interesting to see how many Dead Rising 2 games old on the PS3,seen as though those guys didn't have the first game nor the Case Zero or West games

and i would of loved the Monster Hunter 360 version to come to the west, not sure why they kept that as a Japan release
