Sony hiring for a "futuristic racer"
Whatever could it be?
WipEout developer Sony Liverpool's after a senior designer to work on a "high profile, futuristic racing franchise". Whatever could that be?
Check out the index blurb for the job advert here, before it's pulled.
The post suggests Sony Liverpool's working on something WipEout related. Could it be more DLC for the excellent WipEout HD: Fury? Or perhaps a new game entirely? Or maybe, just maybe, something for the PSP2?
We're having a little dig, now.

Headline for this article: "Sony hiring for a 'futuristic racer'" - The quoted words imply a possibility that it could be a new WipeOut (or a similar game).
Your headline: "Are Sega working on Shenmue 3?" [based on Sega hiring programmers] - Seeing as there's no mention of what type of game is being developed, it could be anything.
If you're going to try and make a witty remark, at least make it work. School boy error.

Goddamn you for making me look at the Edge Games website again, only to find fresh travesties of truth therein!
Including, but not limited to... Assertion that Future Publishing use the Edge name under license... claim that 10% of all profits are donated to charities for sick children... Edge Wii controller, apparently also produced under license.

+1. It truly is a brutal task to get the platinum on that game.
More DLC would be amazing. While they're at it, bring Wipeout 2097 to PSN please!!!

They didn't close down the studio. They let go of a fair number of people but the studio remained open. And clearly they're hiring for projects now, including for Wipeout work, so why not get your hopes up?

That's why I said 'effectively'!
I'd be very pleased if they were reversing that decision.

I think I would prefer the former, even if they don't change much in terms of the game engine and gameplay. WipEout Pulse and Pure accounted for most of the limited time I spent on the PSP I bought a couple of years ago (it was a bad purchase overall, handhelds just aren't my thing, but the WipEout games almost made it worth it), so it would be nice to see a PS3 WipEout that doesn't just recycle and beautify old tracks.

Liverpool was always doing quite a lot of QA and testing work, as well as external dev relations etc. I'm not sure it was ever clear which parts the redundancies were hitting hardest. There were a lot of people working in Liverpool, and the headcount reduction might have fallen heavier on some parts of the studio than in others. But they never completely gutted the development teams.
Right now, they're hiring for this 'futuristic racing game' and also for an action project. And hiring localisation/testing people too.
