Borderlands GOTY out next Fri in UK

Includes DNF demo certificate.

The Game of the Year Edition of Gearbox Software's excellent shooter Borderlands will be released in the UK on Friday, 15th October, 2K Games has confirmed.

It's out for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 and includes the original game and its four downloadable add-ons: The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned, Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot, The Secret Armory of General Knoxx and Claptrap's New Robot Revolution.

This week 2K Games announced that US gamers who pick up a copy will receive a free membership certificate for the Duke Nukem Forever First Access Club. By entering their unique key, they'll get early access to the playable DNF demo.

Eurogamer has learned that the DNF membership certificate will also be included in UK copies of Borderlands GOTY.

If you haven't played Borderlands, you really should. Check out our Borderlands review to discover why.

    Wheres my early access? i supported Gearbox and bought all the DLC already.
  • coolbritannia #2 2 years ago

    FUCKING WANT - I held off buying Borderlands for this very reason, knew a GOTY edition would surface
  • RobertFoster #3 2 years ago

    Have they patched the new level cap in yet? I've been meaning to get the new DLC, but holding off as I'm already at 61.
  • roquey Verified Lead Quality Assurance Tester and Compliance Specialist, Universally Speaking #4 2 years ago

    @Robert i dont think so. Besides 61-69 would only be a few crawmerax trips.
  • butler` #5 2 years ago

    Massive Boderlands fan. Completed the original in a weekend in co-op. Haven't touched any DLC yet because of this GOTY edition. Can't wait :)
  • richarddavies #6 2 years ago

    Any news on the price?
  • Xardan #7 2 years ago

    Good stuff. I would buy but its a busy month what with fable 3, new vegas and others so i may have to hold off buying borderlands for even longer.
  • Bernkastel #8 2 years ago

    Had it preordered for a while now. Can't wait.
  • captain_Carl #9 2 years ago

    Way to reward your fan base, Gearbox!

    I honestly don't see the point in buying games when they come out anymore. Wait a year, you can save yourself some money, get MORE game and get rewarded for it.

    I see no negatives except having to wait a year
  • razzastuta #10 2 years ago

    I have no wish to appear smug but didn't Eurogamer claim earlier in the week that Amazon had said that this was coming out in November? I then posted on that article saying that I'd already pre-ordered it being told an October15th release and that the very same date had been plastered all over HMV, Play's and Zavvi's website.

    And hey presto! Now it's out a week today! Nice one Eurogamer!

    Hmm, when I read that back to myself, I do sound a bit smug, don't I? Sorry everyone. Anyway, this is one game I just cannot wait to get my hands on, regardless of my smug personality. I'm really very nice.

    @richarddavies - it's around £29.99 but I've noticed on Zavvi it's £27.99, unless there's anything else cheaper out there....

    Now I love Borderlands, but does anyone else think GOTY editions are getting abit out of hand? These can't all be "Games of the Year", surely?

    I can't think of anywhere that actually gave that award to Borderlands - can they slap that tag or anything or does it need to have some kind of award to back it up?
  • razzastuta #12 2 years ago

    @arcam

    According to Wikipedia, RPGLand chose Borderlands as it's Game of the Year....which must clearly justify this release! Ahem. *cough*
  • el_pollo_diablo #13 2 years ago

    Question:

    Is the 'Game Of The Year' moniker actually limited to one game of the year or can anyone just put it on their re-release box? I swear there have been other 'GOTY's already this year, which is a bit of a paradox.

    edit: oops. Why don't I read comments before I post? When will I learn?

    Wholeheartedly agree with @roquey.

    Shouldn't really be latecomers and bandwagon jumpers that get beta access - should be people who've subsidised development of the game and its expansions (and therefore the people who helped raise Gearboxes profile to the point where they were handed the keys to DNF.

    Surely much fairer to provide a code via XBL or PSN to people who have clearly paid for all four expansion packs separately and thereby invested a lot more cash into Borderlands and Gearbox... It's not like you can rationally trade in your original copy for the GOTY one when you've got all the DLC installed on your console...
  • coolbritannia #15 2 years ago

    Someone can have my code for DNF, it'll be crap anyway.
  • dfunked #16 2 years ago

    Hear hear!
    Give the loyal fans the demo code and give the johnny come latelys a lump of coal of something... Damn plebs!

    Looking forward to the free patch so that I can carry on with the DLC/finally beat Crawmerax the bastard/start a third playthrough...

    Not happy about this one bit. I've bought all the DLC packs for Borderlands on release day as I did with the main game but Gearbox choose to reward those that like sitting on fences. It is myself and others like me that have made Borderlands so successful, where's my reward? Ok, we're only talking about early access to a demo, but that's not the point. I actually thought Gearbox were the kind of DevTeam that would look after their loyal fans, but no.

    What with this and the patch to allow you to reach level 69 still not being released, hence me not playing the DLC I bought nearly two weeks ago these guys have really gone down in my estimation.

    The GOTY moniker is getting a bit out of hand, but for all I care they could call them the Clowns, Party Hats and Hookers Editions, just keep them coming.

    @Razzastuta £29.99? That's a pretty good deal actually for the game with all the add ons. I'll have to grab this methinks.
  • urbanrider #20 2 years ago

    It's only (and oddly) £24.99 at game.co.uk :) I've preordered ther
  • roquey Verified Lead Quality Assurance Tester and Compliance Specialist, Universally Speaking #21 2 years ago

    @dfunked have you not beat craw? theres nearly always level 61s who are doing craw runs to my knowledge. hop in and get yourself a decent fire and bio rifle. thats all i use!
  • Cronan #22 2 years ago

    I played the game yesterday and had the pleasure of drinking a beer and chatting with Randy Pitchford. I suggested to him that fans of Borderlands would be narked that they had to buy the game again after all the DLC, he said "we'll look into it", but I think he'd be happier if we all traded our current version in and bought the GOTY. ;-)
  • sailesh #23 2 years ago

    But will it work with an existing Borderlands save?? I've seen that the Batman AA GOTY edition comes as a separate version of the game. Hoping that's not the case with this one. Will buy if it works.
  • geeza2020 #24 2 years ago

    Well I'm one of the fencesitters/bandwagon jumpers that people seem to be referring to here, and I will be gladly snapping this up and enjoying the DNF demo as well.

    Sorry early adopters, that's the way the games business works these days. The companies that make these games we play don't give a fuck about you or your feelings, just your cash.
  • I\'mListening #25 2 years ago

    Is this game any good in single player or is it really only good as a co-op purchase, 'cos this is a game I could be interested in
  • roquey Verified Lead Quality Assurance Tester and Compliance Specialist, Universally Speaking #26 2 years ago

    Single Player is ok. however its better experience with other people. exactly the same game though. Well worth it in my opinion.
  • Huntcjna #27 2 years ago

    Im not sure if everyone is aware but I don't think any of the add on content is on the disk. The GOTY edition includes 'tokens' to download all the add-ons and a fold out pandora map. Your not going to get very far buying this without a hard disk and a connected console. Yes its cheaper for those picking up the game for the first time but get prepared for some hefty downloading when you get home.
  • BorkWork #28 2 years ago

    Does it come with SecuRom, if it does.. fuck it...
  • razzastuta #29 2 years ago

    @I\'m listening

    YES YES YES YES

    The single player is brilliant. In fact, so is co-op play as they are both equally brilliant - but if you're going to do co-op, do it with a friend. Just going online with random players sometimes results in them taking all the good loot before you get to it.
  • themanfromdelmonte #30 2 years ago

    gameplay have it up for £22.99 for PS3 and Xbox 360
  • I\'mListening #31 2 years ago

    @razzastuta

    Might have to take a punt on this then next friday. Cheers
  • Soton4084 #32 2 years ago

    Add me to the list of people who purchased the latest DLC on day one, but haven't played it since! I started playing it but then found out that the level cap wouldn't be raised until the GOTY edition!

    It's also a bit irritating that those who supported the game in the first place don't get to access the DNF demo.
  • dfunked #33 2 years ago

    @roquey
    Sadly I got it for the PS3, so even if I do team up with with some other 61s, they'd just run off and do their own thing (voice comms seem to be sadly lacking on the PS3)
