Michel Ancel starts new studio, but remains at Ubisoft

twoism

I really hope ubisoft are giving them all the creative freedom to do whatever they want, and not making them shoehorn their beloved open-world template which gets old really fast. Go to point A, unlock locations for XY, collect 10x item Z to craft an upgrade. Rinse & repeat.

This is an indie game? It always surprises me when smaller teams manage to match or even rival some of the bigger studios.

Too bad, the game itself could be great, but no one will ever know now, because it's ruined with micro-transactions. Another title I can cross off my list.

The Neverhood spiritual successor Armikrog ends Kickstarter a success

twoism

I'm gay, but I still backed the project. Even though I don't agree with TenNapel's views and frankly they infuriate me, it doesn't have anything to do with Armikrog, it's gameplay, art style or story - and to deny the rest of the talented team's creativity and vision (who may not even share the same controversial opinions) would be something I'd actually feel like I'm missing out on.

The Last of Us' Season Pass and DLC detailed

twoism

I'll be watching the making of on youtube then since that's the only part I'd otherwise be interested in and should have been included at the very least in the Joel Edition that I pre-ordered. And I'll wait and see what the single player DLC turns out to be before deciding on that.

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon sequel possible, says Michael Biehn

twoism

I really liked Blood Dragon, but a huge part of my enjoyment with it other than the craziness, was because it was much less of an overwhelming collectathon like Far Cry 3 was. If they make a sequel, I hope they keep it a focused, condensed game rather than a full blown franchise with a million different things to do that are actually all the same.

Most of these are prints lifted from in-game shots it seems. Which is fair enough considering the art style of the game is exquisite, but would have expected some more concept art paintings or something else.

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen review

twoism

Funnily enough, I'd actually double dip if this came to PC - there is clearly demand for it, so it doesn't make sense that Capcom are holding back when almost every other game they release gets a PC port, even if its months after the original releases. As great as the game currently is on consoles, it obviously suffers somewhat from the technical limitations of the hardware, and would benefit greatly (for those who care about performance and eye candy) if it were unshackled, so to speak.

twoism

Dragon's Dogma has been compared to Dark Souls many times but its far more forgiving nature and interesting pawn system made it an immediately more accessible and fun game than the latter for me personally, I will definitely be looking forward to this updated version.

Project Awakened fails to secure funding on Kickstarter

twoism

I think even with kickstarter there needs to be a strong level of marketing involved, because I only just heard about this project a couple days ago, and wanted to back it but completely forgot. Word of mouth is key, and being able to show that the goal is clearly attainable. It's a shame really, it looks and sounds good, I hope their plan B works out.

I'm wondering how dynamic and unique these randomly scripted events are in-game. Surely by the 3rd, 4th, or 5th mugging encounter this will get tiring, but I hope that won't be the case and that it will offer far more variety. The game does look incredible.

Piranha 3DD writers discuss God of War film plans

twoism

"Those movies borrowed quite a bit from the God of War stories. It was just a little bit outdated, so we wanted to differentiate it from those other movies."

No, they didn't. They took elements from the sources that inspired these stories. Besides that, it's not so much about originality these days but rather the execution. I wont be holding my breath for this movie to be any good.

I bought Proteus right after EG published the last article on it, and don't regret it one bit. Between games like this, Journey, Dear Esther et al, I'm so glad there's still life in the industry where experiences are still being created to evoke feelings, soothe and inspire. I don't want to get into the whole "can games be art?" debate, but IMO they clearly can.

Kid Icarus: Uprising dev Project Sora disbands

After so many years worth of hope and speculation about a brand new Kid Icarus game, it finally arrived and the studio is disbanded after they wrap it up. It's a shame really, whether or not they were formed for the sole purpose of developing one game, I wonder what this bodes for any potential sequels.

The first Syndicate screenshots

I'm guessing this re-imagining will be trying to establish itself as it's own series 'inspired' by the universe set in the previous RTS games. I never played the originals so I have no nostalgia to be upset about, but I'm still hoping it'll at least appease some of the old fans. Starbreeze haven't really let me down yet though, Escape from Butcher Bay and The Darkness were both brilliant atmospheric games.

What will games be like in 10 years?

twoism

Episodic titles, F2P systems in place, forcing players to shell out extra cash for more cohesive packages (extortionate DLC), DRM that forces you to play a game to a publisher's very specific requirements, awful social networking implementations, etc. - I hope those things will disappear in the future but something tells me this sort of thing will become more prevalent instead.
