Late Shift continues the FMV revival

@Wayne You can do it with the new Telltale games I believe. Swear Batman had that feature.

I saw a showing of this a year ago or so, they'd set up the BFI theatre in London so we all got to vote and the majority won. It was surprisingly excellent, with cracking production values that I wasn't really expecting. Glad it's coming out on Xbox so I can have another go. Apparently as a group we took it in a weeeeird direction.

One positive to come out of this morning: the fried chicken I bought came with 13 pieces instead of 12. Now I can afford a Switch!

The recently revealed original Xbox controller prototypes keep up a fine tradition of absurdity

hughbarb

I remember going to a talk at London's Design Museum just before the launch of the 360 in which they showed the physical prototypes of the controller (alongside prototypes of the console, which you can see below from that weird OurColony thing they did). They went through oodles of strange ideas. I remember one idea of them having hollowed out handles so people could keep their fingers in there. They looked liked pigs ears. I'll see if I can find the photos on my 2005-era camera phone.

Aww, I have fond memories of their forum as a teen. Great bunch of people between that and PC Zone. All the best to the staff.

Premier Manager 2, the last of the old school management games

hughbarb

I will always remember Premier Manager for one reason and one reason alone.

Halfway through a season Ian Rush, close to helping us winning the league and firing on all fronts... struck by lightning and dies in hospital.

I've always wished new management games had these random elements in them.

I will say though, I feel that the new FM games on tablet come close to that simple measure of old management games. No need to fine-tune training regimes or watch a whole match in 3D and keep notes. Here's a budget, buy some players, put them in a team, watch a match, repeat with new tactics.

Keeping the game alive

If I remember correctly, my CM 01/02 game is currently in 2053. Apart from a brief half-decade away, I've been manager of the same team that entire time. I've only stopped playing because I don't have access to a computer in my spare time.

EDIT: Also, Alexandros Papadopoulos.

My main thought is just how bad this makes the community look. I was quite looking forward to Dust 514, but knowing I'd have to play with people like this. No thanks CCP.

The Xbox is 10 years old today

hughbarb

I always classed the Xbox as the Dreamcast 2 - dozens of creative one-offs, sequels to some of its best games, the next advancement in online gaming (side note: does anyone remember at the launch of Xbox Live software was so thin on the ground that thousands of people played an online demo version of Moto GP?), some great Sega games once the DC had died - even the Controller S just seemed liked the next evolution of the Dreamcast pad.

I think the Xbox was my favourite console of all time - maybe due to my aituation at the time compared to now, but memories of all night Rainbow Six 3, Midnight Madness, Halo 2 then finishing off with a chilled 18 on Links brings back dozens of memories.

Also, does anyone remember XSN? Microsoft's failed line of sports games which all had brilliant online tournament features which linked to a site so you could constantly keep tabs, set up new tournaments and see where you were on the XSN ranking. Was a fantastic bundle of feature all integrated perfectly with each other.
