Where are people getting it so cheap? I read the Tesco one was locked to their network, which isn't something I want - is it easy to unlock?

New Burnout Paradise DLC priced

I've read that it's a Freeburn game mode, but what happens if I'm the host, start this mode and there are people in my game who haven't forked out for this? Are they kicked? Does it just not work?

Had a quick look on the Criterion website and it doesn't seem to say. Can anyone clarify how it works?

Eurogamer's Top 50 Games of 2008: 40-31

Pic Pic is really addictive, but I'm not sure its "good". It's like crosswords or sudoku, are those "good" puzzles?

I recommend it to anyone, its perfect for doing a puzzle which takes 10-15 minutes a time, I've completed about 330 of them and have started to ration them out.

http://www.conceptispuzzles.com/ you can play them (link-a-pix) on this website, but its not the same as with the stylus.

Nintendo to reveal Wii HD tomorrow?

ekko

I said this is what Nintendo should do a while back... A Wii with a HDMI port, the ability to "upscale" the games and a proper HDD. However this report is sketchy, why would Nintendo announce a new console just before Christmas and not release it for another 3 years? I think someone has their wires crossed.

Bethesda Softworks' Pete Hines

ekko

Why are they scared of "surprising" the player?

I think I know what he's on about - not wanting the player to feel cheated - but I hope there is surprises, a big plus from the earlier Fallout games was not being 100% certain what your actions would do to the post-apocalypse wasteland. If they are just going to have big flashing neon signs pointing out the "choices" then I'm not sure they've really understood the spirit of Fallout.

Coverage Index

ekko

While I have little time for the "games = art" bollocks there are games out there which deal with many different themes. It's best treating like with like - how does Call of Duty/Company of Heroes stack up against Saving Private Ryan/Band of Brothers? Play out or watch the Normandy landings in them and compare, I don't think the games come off too bad myself, in certain respects they're a lot more intense.

Games should be treated like games anyway, I don't want to play interactive films and I don't want the media to treat them as such either. Does Geometry Wars not get a look in because it doesn't explain the human condition in the early twenty-first century or make a stinging rebuke of American foreign policy?

New Nintendo hardware in development

ekko

I could see Nintendo doing a Wii HD - which would just be a normall Wii but with a HDMI socket and some snazzy way of up-scaling games to 720p/1080p and a hard disk inside which could copy games to or something. All games could work on both versions of the Wii so wouldn't alienate casual gamers who have braved the console world for the first time by making their console obsolete. Not sure if the up-scalling thing would work, probably not.

Never going to happen though, as this wouldn't involve making people buy all new accessories again.

Actually, Nintendo are probably just developing all the different colours for the Wii Blue/Red/Yellow/Green/Rainbow, etc

Okami needs to sell or no sequel

ekko

I'm currently playing thought Okami (Wii) at the moment and I love it, but some of the above commentators have a point about the start of it, it's too text heavy and the graphics and art design are almost overwhelming. It took me a good hour at least before I finally felt comfortable playing it.

Now I've gotten over that "hump" it's one of the most enjoyable games I've played for the Wii, for anyone disappointed there wasn't a new Zelda announced at E3, get this instead, it will definitely fill the gap.

And even if there isn't a sequel, if games like Okami don't sell then developers and publishers quickly realise that they might as well churn out crappy minigame collections instead of "proper" games.
