@sid-6581 tbh i played twd 1 and 2 ages ago and haven't really thought about them too much. story stuff is so subjective though. long and short is that they're both good games.

@mistachicken Season 2 is a fair bit better than season 1 imo. It's a direct sequel though, so, yes, you really should play season 1 first.

To be honest, I started watching that video thinking it would be hilarious but the sobbing really got to me. Poor little fella. Still, hopefully a reasonable life lesson, as opposed to causing life crippling distrust.

Metro: Last Light review

crispyduckman

@frazzl It's incorrect to suggest a review can't be objective by definition. Although, it can't never be completely objective and certainly doesn't have to be objective at all.

In any event, what I meant was that I appreciate that the reasons I loved Metro 2033 might only have the same effect on a small number of people, or maybe even just me. Obviously, if I was reviewing it, I'd explain myself better. But I'm not.

If I had to give Metro 2033 an objective review score it would have been 7/10. Subjectively though, I enjoyed the hell out of that game like it was 10/10. Reading around other review sources, I get the impression that Last Light might pull the same trick. I'm sticking with my pre-order thanks.

If they were banking on people getting hooked on the service after this offer, they must be bonkers. I got my 2400 but immediately realised the service was utter rubbish compared to the competition and vastly more expensive. Sticking to Netflix here.

Tomb Raider has sold 3.4 million copies, failed to hit expectations

crispyduckman

I wouldn't be surprised if the TR license actually hurt the game to a degree. I was half expecting the same outdated controls from the last TR games. Instead I got something that, at times, felt even more refined than Uncharted.

Tomb Raider writer discusses Lara Croft's kill count

crispyduckman

It could have done with some more involved puzzles but I really liked this reboot and the way Lara took an absolute beating. I got a definite female Jack Bauer / John McClane vibe from the game. Treading the line between gritty hard-as-nails badass and ridiculous OTT absurdity quite well. I can see it might have turned off some TR fans though.

crispyduckman

It's great to see ARM trying to address battery issues with the low power cores but what about battery consumption using the main cores? I'm currently using a HTC One X with the Tegra 3 low power core. It lasts for ages when I'm not doing anything with it but the main cores and powering the screen kills the battery. If I upgrade to an S4 or anything else, I absolutely need to know it will last a full day of HEAVY use.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted vs. PlayStation Vita

crispyduckman

Sony marketing for the Vita has been pretty poor generally, but particularly in respect of the system's power. I had absolutely no idea it was this powerful until I bought one on a whim. Prior to that and playing Uncharted Golden Abyss and NFS: MW, which blew my socks off, I had assumed it was the equivalent of a smartphone with hardware controls. That couldn't be further from the truth.

Sometimes when I ask how long a game is, I actually want to know it isn't too long. Unless it's an absolute masterpiece, I don't have the time or the patience to sit through a 60 hour game.

Metro 2033 retrospective

crispyduckman

I've put way more hours into Battlefield 3 but that game has never moved me in the way Metro 2033 did. In time, I'll forget about BF3 but, like a good book or film, Metro 2033 stays with you. Some people will never understand that but, for me, this game is the reason I play videogames.

/wipes tear from eye.

@dingo75 Whoa, that clears up my question about gathering credits over the long haul.

crispyduckman

Yeah, just saw the IGN review. Putting all the info together, am I to understand that if you don't mind gathering credits slowly over the long haul and you don't mind waiting for repairs, then the game isn't actually that terrible? Obviously, two very big "ifs", but I'm still curious.

Spec analysis: Nvidia Project Shield

crispyduckman

I currently have a HTC One X with Tegra 3. Let's assume my next phone has Tegra 4 and I get that free(ish) with a contract or otherwise purchased before I consider gaming. Would I really want to pay another £400 for the same device with a joystick? I definitely like the look of the device, but I'm not convinced.

HTC One X Review

crispyduckman

I expect the S3 will have similar specs but with a longer battery life and 2 gigs ram, which are both the primary flaws in the 1X. I would have waited for the S3 if I still had my S2 but I was phone-less and close to desperate for 5 months already.

I got a One X on release. Initially I thought the battery was terrible but after a few days of use it seems to have got better and I get a full day of moderate use (with auto sync on twitter, email etc). On a heavy day of gaming with wifi, it still dies well before bed time.

Imo, Sense 4.0 stinks. I want speed and I don't give a crap about fancy weather widgets. I've come from a Galaxy S2, which I lost, and Sense just feels less snappy than Touchwiz (never mind something like Resurrection Remix Pro). I'll give it a month or so and then picking a good custom ROM, which should sort that problem out (as well as a battery life boost).

XCOM: Enemy Unknown Preview: A True X-COM Sequel?

Big fan of the original. This would kick ass as a XBL Arcade / PSN title. If it's good, I'll get it either way, but I can't see a turn based strategy being an astronomical success as a full priced retail game. I'd gladly be proven wrong though.

I kept all the characters alive. Not that I gave a shit about any of them. Most disappointing game of this generation imo. Having said that, I suppose there was no way that the narrative would resonate with every gamer. I didn't connect with Ethan at all. Perhaps bizarrely, I felt a greater sense of empathy towards the lead character in Fahrenheit, which I still remember fondly.

Hang about. Who's fault is it that it leaked in the first place? I'm not condoning piracy but, knowing there's an obvious risk there, Crytek/EA should have made should they had adequate measures in place to prevent such a leak. Get your own house in order before you start whining about how evil p2p is.
