This was an excellent game, so much so that I wish Mucky Foot hadn't died off. Strange not to mention the fact that there are only something like 10 missions, that play out as nothing more than an extended tutorial. The game definitely needed more depth in its campaign.

Also, Aurora, the bastard, sleezy space trader.

Did anyone play the Kung Fu mod that one guy produced? It added in wall running/jumping, a big stick to hit mafia guys with and a silly bend-over-backwards bullet dodge ripped straight from the matrix. It was amazing work, and all by one guy working entirely on his own.

Also, the TV shows you could watch on the various sets around the game were great too. Who could forget the classic Address Unknown, with the sinister pink flamengo (which I seem to recall having a theme park dedicated to it as a level in the sequel).

"I have no idea how anyone can justify saying *this* is inappropriate. Have you seen the front cover of OK! magazine this week??! "

Unfortunately I have. I noticed it on the shelf while I was queuing to pay for shopping, and couldn't believe that they had the brass balls to publish that, especially on the front page.

Again, though, it'll sell magazines. That's all the justification they need.

Of course it can. You'd have to be pretty naive if you thought anything otherwise. Papers and websites don't mention stuff to keep you informed out of some humanistic desire to spread knowledge. It's all about getting copies sold and pages hit.

@AphoticCosmos:

Except that releasing something like that will draw a hell of a lot of curious people to go and ogle the costumes. Also, this is essentially free advertising on every gaming site, blog and forum that mentions it. While they won't make any money off microtransactions, you can be sure as hell their advertising revenue will sky-rocket. So, yeah, I don't think this is purely a 'tribute'.

I was in The Red Skull, but I left just before the whole thing went tits up.

Shoddy leadership makes shoddy decisions. They broke off a good alliance in a profitable area of space to try to pinch that area from Huzzah. Kinda bit them in the ass, to be honest.

Why is it every time Manhunt 2 is mentioned, the first comment is inevitably some idiot missing the point? I've said it a million times, it's not the quality of the game that's important, it's the principal of censorship.

People don't want "noobs" to get access to the good stuff. That means that their own good stuff is watered down, and generally less of a great thing to have.

Gov responds to UK games industry woes

I have absolutely no doubt that the government is giving this help in order to exercise a veto over the content of the software that is produced. It's a sneaky way to gain a financial choke-hold on the games industry.

The only way in which this could be a good thing is if they include a mini-game in which you shuffle your ass along a carpet, pet-dog style. That could only end in drunken hilarity.

Ninja Gaiden 2

Saladin

10 years ago

GTA does need, and should have had, a silky smooth framerate. If I'm driving at 80mph along a busy freeway, I don't want to feel like my car is driving through treacle, especially when I'm also trying to dodge angry policecars.

Shitty framerates are not excusable in this day and age.

Three new Burnout modes unveiled

Saladin

@Freek:

"Open world is all about player choice: if he/she wants to explore, they will do so. If a person just wants to open the map screen and click on an event, they should be able to do so aswel (once you've found them). "

Not so. Look at GTA or Crackdown, which are pretty much the definitive open-world games I can think of at the moment - you can't instantly jump to missions or race events at will. You have to travel through the gameworld to get to them. Explain to me how this is different from the system in place in Paradise?

New Burnout Paradise DLC videos

It's funny how the people who complain about the lack of restart are the people who don't own and enjoy the game. Bitching incessantly to the devs to add features to a game you don't even own, when they effectively owe you nothing is a tad ridiculous. I'm glad they're adding features for the people who did go out and buy the game to enjoy, rather than pandering to the rest of you with features that aren't actually needed and go against Criterion's own design policy for the game.

Games a "colossal waste of time"

Saladin

10 years ago

I would agree - games are a colossal waste of time. I can't begin to imagine how much time I've wasted playing games across the years.

However, this doesn't mean I don't think it has value as a hobby. This is where these pundits are missing the point. They don't like or understand games, fine. I don't like or understand golf. I think it's a colossal waste of time to go traipsing about for miles, hitting a little ball into a hole for no actual reward. I don't mouth off about it, though, understanding as I do that adults have a right to choose their own past-times and time-wasters.

Manhunt 2 will get UK release

Saladin

10 years ago

Two posts. That's all it took for someone to miss the point.

The issue with Manhunt 2 isn't the quality of the game, it's the censorship that was important. Adult gamers have a right to play adult software, much the same as we have the right to watch any 18 movie or read whichever gorey horror novel we choose.
