Braben still wants to make Elite 4

Earlyflash

Braben needs to put up or shut up. He still uses Elite as the reason why anyone listens to any of the rubbish that he spouts all over the gaming press. Dangling Elite every few months is purely to keep his unreasonably high profile in the gaming media.

If he wasn't anything to do with Elite would he be so widely reported and listened to? I suspect not.

Eurogamer Readers vs. Nintendo 3DS

Earlyflash

"Nintendo 3DS has not yet been dated, but is due to be released on 3DS." What?

Nicely written article, well done. For me the 3DS is still to expensive with no longevity, I still feel like the 3d is just a gimmick, and I've done ninendo gimmicks before (Wii) and it's all too short lived for my liking. When the software support arrives, I'll consider it.

No new ratings system until April 2011

Earlyflash

PEGI is also non-sensical at the lower ends. As a father of two young'uns, I try to be careful about what they play, but probably 99% of my games collection is rated 7+. Even harmless driving games, such as Blur are 7's, it's really odd and I can't understand it.

I'm not sure that adding more levels in would help - do we really need that granular ratings at that level? It'll often hinge on a single instance of a single word.

Digital Foundry vs. OnLive

Earlyflash

A big issue here in the UK, and to a lesser extent in the US is the bandwidth requirements. 2.5GB/hour? Wow, with the proliferation of capped broadband packages this will be a huge burden.

The cheapest broadband packages tend to be 10-30GB/month, so 4-12 hours gaming a month? Wow, that's tight. So there will be additional costs for the gamer who has to uprate their package as well as pay for OnLive subscription.

Eurogamer Expo 2010 announced!

Earlyflash

There really is a lot of ficticious chatterbollox in this thread.

To those of you saying that you can get to E3 cheaper. Assuming that you live in leeds, the cheapest deals I can find are:
Flight: £500 (if you go on the weekend - if you fly in Monday morning it's £1,800). You also have to go via Amsterdam or Calgary.
Ticket: $400 (£250) (You may possibly get a free ticket if you are an exhibitor, etc).
Hotel: at least another £300.

So if you can't get to London for a weekend for less than £800-1000, something is really wrong with you.

Mind you, you get a week in LA for the E3 ticket, so it's not all bad.

What did amaze me was that the travel time from Leeds-> London is only 2h 16m. That's bloody quick, and definitely faster than by car.

Earlyflash

@blerk, wow that's a huge amount of cash. Is that travelling at peak time? did you check for cheaper advance fairs on the website? Often if you book a long time in advance the tickets are significantly cheaper.

EDIT: Cheapest fair I can find Leeds->London is about £80, so you probably are spot on. Ouch

Also, are the northerners so upset they have to mod down reasonable comments like mine? Blimey, how sad.
6 5

Earlyflash

As long as the ratio of demo pods:attendees doesn't change significantly I'm in. The worry with having many many more people is that you can't get near a game ever (see E3/GDC, etc).

I'd hate for this to become a poor man's E3.

Glad you are trying to take it up a notch though, sound be interesting.

Mod War games too samey, says EA

Could there be any bigger gap between the two big CEOs? Kotic consistently seems to make an ass of himself and a enemy of the gamer, but Riccitiello seems to just talk a lot of sense. Pretty surprising considering how much EA was hated not all that long ago.

Puzzle Quest 2 to be unveiled soon

Earlyflash

Puzzle Quest was absolutely fabulous, but I found it a bit of a grind towards the end. As you levelled up, so did the enemies, and the battles just took longer and longer.

This is the same problem with Gyromancer, which is interesting, but the same problem - too much grind. As you get better the battles should be over quicker, not longer really.

It all became a real putoff towards the end. Galactrix seemed to suffer the same fate to me, and I really hated the board on that one, horrible stuff.

Datel sues Microsoft over mem unit ban

Earlyflash

In case anyone still cares. I have connected my Hard Drive from my xbox using the official transfer kit to my PC. Run a piece of software (I won't say which one), and I have full unfettered access to the content on my hard drive.

I can't change anything without additional software, as each item is signed with your consoleid and live profile id keys (If I remember correctly). However, there are several software solutions which allow for these to be changed.

to test, I just copied the CoD5 save from the hd to my PC. reconnected the HD to the xbox, Deleted it from the HD using the xbox dash. Reloaded it from my PC to the HD and fired up CoD5. It was fine.

I could do the same with my Profile, but I think that the point is made.

""USB Hard Drive Transfer kit to a PC."
Those don't work anymore either. "

I believe that this is incorrect. If I plug the USB Transfer kit into my PC, the ohter end connects to the Hard drive directly. No xbox involved at all.

How exactly does the xbox update stop me doing that?
0 0

Earlyflash

The xbox 360 transfer kit works on the hard drive, not via the memory card as far as I remember.

This will stop almost no-one changing their profile, as you can just as easily do it with the USB Hard Drive Transfer kit to a PC.

Seems to be definitely about owning the market imo.

L4D1 DLC pricing not Valve's decision

Earlyflash

If developers want to charge nothing for their content, then they should be allowed to. I can't see how this is being 'unfair' to anyone else. All developers should be allowed to set their own price points, then it's fair all round.

Seems a little unfair to charge on one platform and not the other, especially when there is a premium for lauching content on the 360 already (licencing fees).
