Mirror's Edge, Brothers in Arms, Fracture, Guitar Hero, Baja, FIFA, Quantum of Solace.

The latest bloody skirmish begins here. Seven more cross-platform releases are appraised for your feverish attentions across the next few pages, backed - as usual - by the best range of comparison assets on the internet. That'll be full 720p and 1080p HDMI 24-bit RGB screengrabs, and h.264-powered 1:1 precision videos.

Before we begin proper, let's kick off with a bit of good news. 2K has just updated BioShock with a brand new patch for the disappointing PlayStation 3 conversion of the game. The numerous promised bug-fixes have all materialised, but better than that, the vastly annoying blur effect has been substantially reduced. What blur there is now appears to be down to the reduced sub-720p resolution and, alas, this combined with the wildly variable frame-rate remain. More details on the befores and afters at the author's blog.

Getting back to the present, there's an intriguing selection of seven games in the line-up, including one of my personal favourite games of the year: DICE's innovative Mirror's Edge.

Legal spat over Baja cover settled

Back to the drawing board for Acti-Blizz.

Activision-Blizzard has agreed to redraw the box art for SCORE International Baja 1000, after THQ complained that the packaging looked too similar to Baja: Edge of Control.

Baja

1000 miles without stopping.

In real life, the Baja 1000 race, which generally runs for about 1000 miles, takes 27 hours to finish. And that's if you're the world-record holder. It's a serious business, but it's a pretty rubbish business, by the sound of it. According to our giddy THQ and 2XL guides during the game's first playable showing, racers spend up to a million dollars on their vehicles and then have to spend another half-mil on race support from a watching helicopter - all for a prize purse of just five grand.

Darksiders, de Blob, Red Faction, loads more.

THQ gathered the world's press in San Francisco this week to show off its line-up for the next year, announcing Dawn of War II just beforehand and a Saints Row 2 release date on the night before plying us all with alcohol and letting us loose on demo pods and developers.

THQ unveils new off-roader for PS3, 360

Races can last up to four hours.

THQ has announced plans to release a new off-road racing game for PS3 and Xbox 360.

Baja (pronounced "badger", at least in the Eurogamer office) is being developed by some of the team behind the MX vs. ATV games. It combines "the best elements of the real-world sport with the right balance of arcade fun", according to the press release.

There will be more than 100 square miles of tough terrain to explore, featuring mountains, mud and canyons. Expect 40 vehicles in eight classes, including Trophy Trucks, 4x4s and buggies. Vehicles can be upgraded with hundreds of different parts.
