Great response. So you haven't read the review yet (of course you haven't, and I nor anyone else would believe you if you said you had), but felt compelled to slag of its objectivity anyway. Face it, Halo 3 is one of the best games to be released this year. The sales, the scores, it's unanimous. I suggest you come to an acceptance 'mate'. And so ends our dialogue. You can't possibly have anything of worth left to say that's worth my time or a response!

"As for Edge - That is not surprising. Most magazines will for some reason? Thats what the prob is. Sure - give it a great score, for the right reasons without ignoring the bad. In which case Edge didnt give a review - they gave a praise - which kind of defeats the object and misleads the public"

Em, have you even READ their review yet to know that?! Take that lemon out of your mouth, puh-lease. Halo 3 for GOTY! \o/

Edge magazine awarded Halo 3 a rather outstanding 10/10.

A psychologist could learn a lot from this thread. The sheer, unadulterated outpouring of venomous hate from certain 'contributors', whilst being lol-worthy to the max, is surely indicative of deep-seated and worrying psychological issues. It is with a mixture of shock, horror and bemusement that I ask myself just why it is that some people are so angry that Eurogamer decided to award Halo 3 a 10.

Here's what Shinji (the reviewer) just said in the forums:

"Halo 3 is not a perfect game, but it is the pinnacle of a fantastic series and by far the best game within its own genre - which is balls-out, blockbuster-style FPS action. That, to my mind as a reviewer, is enough to justify a 10/10 - because the game simply doesn't have enough flaws or problems to justify dropping a full mark from its score.

There are two kinds of tens which I've awarded as a reviewer; tens for games which are genuinely groundbreaking and innovative (Shadow of the Colossus, Half-Life 2) and tens for games which simply take existing game mechanics and build a stunningly polished experience out of them, which genuinely stands head and shoulders over other things in the genre. Halo 3 is in the latter camp."

Take it or leave it, but that's the bottom line folks.

Not that I give too much credence to what that Kato guys says normally, but aren't you the same poster that suffered through multiple 'old' 360 failures? And now, surprise, surprise, you're on your THIRD Elite in TWO weeks?

You'll forgive me if I choose to call bullshit on your claims. Maybe Kato was right after all. Maybe you are an anti-MS troll, under the guise of a supposedly disgruntled Xbox 360 'owner'. Maybe you're on some pointless and misguided FUD-spread quest?

Maybe not. But at this stage, it's really becoming difficult to seperate fact from fiction with regards your claim. I know MS' hardware is shonky and all, but your occurences just seem a bit out there....

I wonder will there ever be a Halo-related comments thread that doesn't reach 100 posts and descend into trolling and flamebait? Probably not, while there are a copious amount of bitter and twisted h@70rz out there, determined to try and rain on somebody's parade, for their own entirely unfathomable reasons. Ah well. I'd much rather be sat here in my chair, excited in the manner of a child weeks before Christmas Day, anxiously awaiting the release of a game that I'm sure to get hours upon hours of enjoyment out of, than a sad git sat on internet messageboards, trying to convince everybody that such and such a game is crap, and that people are somehow wrong to like/love it for their own personal reasons... (Potentially) quality Xbox 360 console exclusives out in the next few months:

    Halo 3

    PGR4

    Mass Effect

    Lost Odyssey

Blue Dragon (Yeah, yeah, yeah, demo schemo. Metacritic score 89 bitches! ;))

    BioShock

    Have I missed anything....?

Just for the bitter Sony fanboys who are trying to pick holes at all the multiplat games in EG's list. Of course there'll be a few. That's the reality of the industry today. The point is that you don't need a PS3 because the Xbox 360 has got the lion's share of its worthwhile (multiplat) games anyway, as well as a smattering of potentially awesome exclusives to complement the third party riches being bestowed upon MS' box this season.

    So there! :D

Anyway, I though Top Spin 2 was better than Virtua Tennis 3. It was more realistic, more tactical, and just a better all round simulation, to VT's arcadey sensibilities. It was flawed though (TS) and it's about time they took out those gimmicky EA-style 'risk shots'. Other than that, looking forward to this. COME ON TIM! :D

I loved the Max Payne games. I loved their over-wrought film noir sensibilities, their stylishness, their genuinely compelling characters and stories. • E3: Peter Moore

  • joeking 12/07/2007

Good interview. He sounds generally confident, and why shouldn't he? Microsoft have by far the best offering this Christmas. With all the great games, the addition of Video Marketplace and (you would have thought) more reliable consoles, if they can drop the price significantly (I still believe the Premium needs to be 199.99 for it to become truly mass market) then the Xbox 360 will clean up.

I hope Eurogamer will be as tough on Phil Harrisson or Jack Tretton as they were with Peter Moore though. But somehow, I doubt they will be. Either that, or the Sony guys will be too chicken to answer the tough questions, and will put the skids on the EG interviewer beforehand. :)

I wonder what effect its launch will have on the 360's sales, if the army of internet forumers who've been holding out thusfar is anything to go by. MS might not even need a price reduction in order to boost sales (they should still give us one though)! Reply 0
  • Microsoft extends 360 warranty

  • joeking 06/07/2007

"Nobody is unhappy with the extended warranty, 360 owners should be glad for it, but the fact is that this is a barely sufficient fix for a pretty bad situation."

Jesus SeesThroughAll, give it up mate Just give it up. They HAVE fixed the Xbox 360. Peter Moore was very explicit in saying that they [MS] know what the flaw in the design is, and are implementing the correction into their consoles going forward. All this extended warranty is is as a gesture to those (like me) who ALREADY have a 360, as a level of protection in the case of future problems.

Let's call a spade a spade here, shall we? Either your Sony fanboysim so strong that you refuse to accept this, or are you just plain vanilla stupid? So, which one is it?

Once the new Xbox 360's start to become a retail reality, it'll be all go from then on. Hell, cautious evidence so far even suggests that the recently released Elite models in America are not as susceptible to failure as the Core and Premium models.

You're like a dog with a bone mate. MS are hardly going to commit to a $1bn bill, without ensuring that future consoles are as reliable as is possible, so as to minimise their potential future expenditure, are they?

Give it a rest already. It's over.

All I'll say to you is that MS are just acting in the same way that most companies would in the absense of serious consumer pressure. It all came to a head, anger built up to pressure point, so they reacted. They should have Q&A'd it properly in the first place, but they didn't, we bitched continuously, and thus forced their hand, eventually. Chapter closed, as far as I'm concerned. I really don't see what it is to be gained any longer from lambasting MS over this, unless of course you (and I don't mean you, specifically) are a scorned PS3 fanboy, upset that your greatest stick with which to beat the 360 with, given its plethora of quality gaming, has been yanked unceremoniously out of your hands.

Hey, we all acknowledge that MS have done bad. We've been saying it all along! But they've come out now, they've admitted their mistakes, they've rectified their wrongs...time to let it go. Banging on about "how it never should have come to this in the first place" serves no purpose now. It's just gratuitous whinging for the sake of it. And I dare say most of it will emanate from those of a Sony disposition come 9am, just you watch. It's time to move on people. No sense in living in the past. Reply 0

I'm heartened by this bit in particular: "To address this issue, and as part of our ongoing work, we have already made certain improvements to the console". Hopefully, the worst is behind us now. The 360 is a great console, and it'd be nice if more people that want to could avail of one, in full confidence that a hard day's play won't end up with their house aflame! :D

Hopefully the Sony fanboys will shut up about it now. Somehow I doubt they will though. :(

RE: Intuivity (is that even a word?)

You see, this is what I don't get. If you can't 'get' the controls in this game straight off, and it takes a while to get the hang of it all (as is the case with almost every game, to be fair), then what exactly is the big difference between this and, say, SWOS on Live Arcade? After all, with the latter, you or I or a 'n00b' wouldn't 'get' the controls straight off the bat, but they're hardly rocket science and/or difficult, and you'd be having your jollies within a few minutes of getting your bearings.

Meh, I'll be keeping an eye on this, but I think SWOS on Live Arcade will be more than enough to satisy my 'simple footie' desires in-between the major league Pro Evo/Fifa 360 (whichever one is better this year) sessions.
