Another STELLAR DLC package - the game will now have 48 tracks! This really is the definitive Mario Kart game :O

...and aside from a somewhat lacking battle mode, if they do something with that then it will be a complete and utter masterpiece.

Can't they reassess the main reason why Sonic Boom was such a dismal failure? That it was a complete broken disaster of a game upon inception? It seems like such an easy way out resorting to mobile phone game design - where is the ambition and creativity they once had? I understand games like Daytona, Shenmue and Panzer Dragoon are hardly mainstream, but surely they can do better than this? Surely? Reply +4

Painfully mediocre at best, this was probably the most uninteresting and underwhelming showcase I have ever seen for a RE game. Seriously lacking in atmosphere...maybe because of it being demoed on stage, but either way, I definitely was not invested. Reply +1

Ahh, good to see this receiving a warm reception! I have to say the number of quality indie titles are definitely making their way onto the Wii U - quite a few are on the horizon too thanks to Kickstarter. Shall definitely be picking this one up tomorrow. In the digital sense obviously. Reply 0

Although Rare have always taken inspiration from Nintendo (DK, Banjo, Diddy Kong Racing), this is really scraping the bottom of the barrel. Hell, even Nuts and Bolts was significantly more ambitious than this - I seriously cannot believe this is the same company that pioneered adventure gaming, whether be it in first or third person. I want that sense of wonderment back, that sense of discovery - even games like Kameo and Viva Pinata had that!

This game however - no creativity whatsoever. Utterly shambolic.

  • Mario U and Luigi DLC replace Nintendo Land in Wii U Premium bundle

  • gimo80 23/10/2013

Decent approach as it clearly shows that Nintendo Land failed to become a USP for the console, despite it being an excellent showcase for the system. Best to stick with a franchise that people are familiar with then :) Let's just hope that Nintendo tap into a wider market this Christmas which should then effectively create a better attach rate so they can make more experimental games! Although I'm all for Mario/Zelda/Metroid, a scrummy new franchise would make me squeal. Reply 0
  • Watch us play New Super Luigi U from 5pm BST

  • gimo80 20/06/2013

Excellent level design as expected. I always find the comments section incredibly negative on Eurogamer regarding Nintendo however I honestly feel that the 3DS has had such a phenomenal couple of months and with Game & Wario, Pikmin 3, Sonic, DK, Zelda HD, Mario and The Wonderful 101 on the horizon, I'm honestly thrilled with the selection of games coming out.

And in terms of rehashing franchises and previous incarnations, I always find something fresh with each release. The only real exception was New Super Mario Bros. 2 for the 3DS albeit being a fully functional game. As long as there plenty of twists around each corner on Super Mario 3D World and Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze then I will be pretty darn happy!

While I would appreciate more second-party and third party releases, I will only purchase Nintendo consoles for their own brand of games and how they can be translated to the new hardware - Super Mario 64 was truly innovative for its time when you could actually tip toe using the analogue stick and Nintendo always have that knack for wowing me by introducing new gameplay mechanics - the PS4/XbOne will offer different experiences for me that I will find exclusive to those particular machines.

So yeah, really excited for this Christmas! Plenty of games coming out....I just hope that I can work enough hours during that time!

Absolutely ridiculous. The gameplay mechanics are just horrendous (especially the combat system), the acting is laughable and the puzzles take you away from the 'action' so much - the pacing, atmosphere, EVERYTHING about the game is appalling.

  • gimo80 07/01/2012

@lolercopter Admittedly, Nintendo have been somewhat lacking this generation...but you must admit that whenever they truly commit themselves to a project, it can be seen as a landmark title. This is why I find Nintendo so exciting still, despite the lack of truly killer titles for the Wii. And in response to your Sega/EA comparison, the former have truly lost their creative edge since both Jet Set Radio Future and Panzer Dragoon Orta flopped on the Xbox, which was a crying shame. I still think the characterisation and plot lines in point and click games are pretty awesome (most notably Grim Fandango), but the vast majority of gaming doesn't really take these things into consideration at the moment. MGS4 is a prime example of this - convoluted beyond believe, despite being pretty entertaining. Reply +8

I'm in my final year at University studying English Literature and Creative Writing (and should hopefully end up with a 2:1), however would this affect my chances at all? I have plenty of work experience under my belt and have a number of contacts at Future Publishing (most notably the Official Playstation Magazine) and I currently write for a website called Gamer Limit (doing features/articles/news/reviews, etc) but because of my age (I'm 22) and the fact that I have 4 months to go, is there any point that I should apply now or perhaps wait until I've finished full time education?

I'm thinking about moving to Brighton after University, also! But yeah, not sure if now is the right time to apply for something so ambitious. Still, it's something that I've always wanted to do.

  • Retrospective: Blinx: The Time Sweeper

  • gimo80 23/01/2011

I actually LOVED this game back in the day, however it was crippled by difficulty spikes, an abominable camera and uninspired level design. The novelty of pausing time in water always seemed to amuse me, giving you the ability to create a pathway in what looked like a sea of jello. To be honest, that was the only particularly salvageable moment considering how derivative the rest of the game was. Looks like time was less than kind to Blinx.

And the sequel was pretty redundant too.

My primary concern is the number of IP's being released - I'm all for reboots, but I would like to see a brand new franchise that utilises the 3D capabilities of the console seamlessly. • Games of 2010: Super Mario Galaxy 2

  • gimo80 28/12/2010

The Galaxy series actually sparked my interest in gaming again - before that I was playing countless FPS/driving games, only to walk away feeling dissatisfied afterwards. After a somewhat lengthy drought in 2007, Super Mario Galaxy came out...and my god, I was fucking sold. The game is pretty much a sensory overload; incredible visuals, a rousing (and/or arousing) orchestrated score and ingenious level design. It nearly made me weep in sheer, unadulterated joy.

Galaxy 2 probably sits alongside Ocarina of Time for me. It's actually flawless. Here's to another incredible game in one of the most celebrated series in gaming history :)

  • Flame-grilled new Uncharted 3 screens

  • gimo80 17/12/2010

I whole heartedly disagree. Uncharted 2 truly set the benchmark for this generation - some of the set pieces are absolutely insane, not to mention the train segment that seamlessly integrates new environments after you have finished a certain section. From a technical point of view, it's actually ridiculous. And from an artistic point of view, it's excellent too - Assassin's Creed suffers from awful character models and lip synching and Resi Evil 5 can sometimes look a little bland and repetitive (despite looking terrific).

This game already looks fantastic, looking forward to it muchly :)

Well the Wii is blitzing the competition at the moment (check VG Chartz) so it may seem that Nintendo will come up trumps once again this holiday season. Not that it surprises me; the Wii is considerably cheaper and has an incredible vast library of games at its disposal.

So glad this one turned out alright! It's encouraging to see Sonic Team actually taking care of their flagship mascot, and it's even more encouraging how aware they are of how terrible previous incarnations were. The last relatively decent Sonic game in my opinion was probably the original Sonic Rush, it was literally just fast, succinct and to the point.

I actually think the Wii has had a great year so far - Monster Hunter Tri, Sin and Punishment 2, No More Heroes 2 and Mario Galaxy 2 are all games that have literally blown me away. I also think there are a fair few underrated gems on the console that people seem to forget about (namely Muramasa, Zack and Wiki, Little King's Story, Madworld, etc) - I agree that there aren't as many bloackbusters as I hoped, but there are still some quality titles for the system.

Definitely looking forward to Metroid Other: M, Kirby and Donkey Kong too :) Here's hoping there's still plenty more life in the Wii!

What the hell is up with the production in this song?? All the effects sound like default settings on a microkorg synth - plus the beat in the bridge section simply does not work. The only bit that saves it is the ending, which I thought was pretty cool - nice chord progression there.

Disappointed in most of the song to be honest. I heard that they held a competition for fans to actually create the instrumentation section of the song...and this is the best they came up with! Anyways, the game looks promising, hopefully the solo campaign should be pretty gripping.
