  • EA says no, your FIFA matches aren't rigged

  • fergal_oc 20/06/2017

Online Seasons is definitely rigged. The first 3 or 4 games I play in each division I always lose, then magically I win the last 4 or 5 and top the division.

There was some interesting correlation with the fact that I would tend to stop playing after each division. So I took the opportunity to test this out. I'd play the first game in a division, leave the game and come back later. I'd almost always lose that first game regardless of how well I thought I'd played.

Interestingly, I'd still lose the same number of consecutive games as I would on a longer stint, the next time I booted the game up, meaning it was that bit more difficult to win the division.

So what I found was that the number of games I lost correlated with either the beginning of a new division or when I was on a fresh restart of the game.

That means either the game is rigged, I fatigue easily or I take a long time to warm up after a break....

Just not good enough across the board. An email from amazon at 2am this morning saying the game won't turn up until Monday is unacceptable.

Amazon have been getting worse and worse over the last 6months for me personally - Prime will not renewed!

  • Ark fans burned by Scorched Earth, the Early Access game's "completely finished" expansion

  • fergal_oc 06/09/2016

@josepm.pons you took the words from my finger tips - it's disrespectful, smacks of immaturity within their development pipeline and process and shows that they've lost control and are prioritising future $$$s and not making sure that those already spent have been used to deliver a product that performs to an acceptable level. (I hate the word finished when it comes to games).

My son loves the game but there's no way I'll be buying him the expansion pack. Having seen so much of this crap from within the industry already it's incredibly hard not to be cynical about these things.

Games Testing is still predominantly in the dark ages and games are continuing to outgrow the unsustainable human only approach.

I was part of the Cert team that tested QR before release. It was one of the main reasons why I bought an Xbox, after Halo of course. I never got to see the cover box art and so could just enjoy it for what it is. It's a shame still that marketing is often the reason why a good game succeeds or not. Reply +1
  • EA responds to FIFA 13 bug complaints aired on BBC's Watchdog last night

  • fergal_oc 02/11/2012

When people say QA do they mean the Test Team? If so - STOP BLAMING THE TEST TEAM! Do people really think that the Test Team missed some of these most obvious bugs?

Now I'm not defending EA, far from it. The number of times Fifa 13 has locked in the Arena when joining a Seasons match is unnaceptable. I don't get much time to game these days and having every other Seasons match fail to load, resulting in a return to the dashboard to get the game going again, means I'm spending far too much of my gaming time not gaming.

Of course I forgot, everyone commenting here is a software developer, tester, pm or something else in software development.

It's been said so many times, games ship with known bugs. When it comes to the crunch bugs get deferred in order to hit the end date. Having a marketing budget that has been spent advertising a game that's releasing on a certain date is a known cost and for a big title a BIG cost. Shipping a game that has bugs is a risk, but with the ability to patch and a potentially loyal fan base willing to part with their cash regardless it's a risk SOME team are willing to take.

So to all those people spouting off blaming Test, what you're saying isn't new, it's been said since the dawn of time, but solely blaming Test is wrong!

Think you're all being a bit harsh.

  • fergal_oc 24/01/2012

I've scoured through the comments and couldn't find a direct reference although someone mentioned teacher training etc.

Who is going to teach this curriculum?

All of the good programmers are in high paid jobs already and for those of you with programmer friends, I'm sure you'll agree that very few of them have the social skills to teach a bunch of primary/early secondary school age children (ok maybe that's a bit harsh but you get my point).

I think this is something I'd personally love to do at some point in my life but I'd have to take some sort of PGCE and then depending on starting salary, cut my income but at least 50%.

I was lucky in that my dad was an electrical engineer and encouraged me at a young age (8) to use the computer and much like Braben etc I picked up a book about GW Basic that came with the PC and found myself taking an interest in programming.

Hopefully, my son who has recently just turned 8, will have the same interest as he loves building levels in LBP and I'll slowly introduce him to some sort of basic language, but I know a lot of his friends aren't that way inclined at all.

And if they're rushing this in for September, the first few years of students are likely to get a rough rough ride from a poor curriculum and badly trained teachers and all we'll end up doing is pushing people away from it altogether.

@Brownstudy - generally if you're completely new to programming I would stay well clear of C++. The majority of programming fundementals can be picked up using something like DarkBasic. The use of variables, arrays, functions etc will all be there. If you want something a bit more 'flexible' then C# will encourage Object Oriented programming but I wouldn't say this was necessary for anyone doing it as a hobby and if you start with DarkBasic and plan on doing something more complicated you'll soon see the issues with procedural programming and Object Oriented programming might make more sense. Just my two pennies anyway.

  • fergal_oc 17/11/2011

It's Disneyland in the states - Anaheim

Having recently been to Disneyland Paris the entrance and Main Street are similar enough to make us think we were back there again. The music is great as you wander around and they've got It's a Small World - the wife was most happy I have to say.

My 5yr old daughter did get a little frustrated with the gesture recognition although I think that's probably more down to the poor lighting and L-shapped sofa in the living room getting in the way. All was forgotten when she saw Mickey and was able to work around the park. If you've been to a Disney park and enjoyed the experience of just being there I can hearily recommend it.

  • fergal_oc 12/01/2011

I do have some concerns about the Windows platform on ARM announcement. Didn't think it was very clever considering they've only just released WP7.

I've got my own game on marketplace (Christmas Chimney Chuck Challenge) which has sold a few copies but for a second I thought I was 1 of only 30, which is bonkers as I know at least a few more devs out there that have released their own Indy games - silly EG not proof reading before publishing - hrumph

BTW - The Omnia 7 I think is awesome. There's one niggly annoying bit for me with the touch sensitive buttons (here's hoping an update will be available to lock them) but other than that it's now replaced my iPhone as my main portable gadget coz I loves it!

got to agree that the Omnia7 is an awesome peace of kit. the screen is amazing even compared to the HTC Trophy which is pretty good.
