  • Watch: Star Wars Battlefront is a bit shallow (and that's alright)

  • ammobox 15/10/2015

This game is designed in way that caters to the lowest common denominator. The shallow definition is spot-on. It means it is empty, it does not have any depth. This is bad, and nothing can redeem it. You can't call it simple "arcade" fun, while arcade games are easy to pick up and play they are also very hard to actually master (like any good shooter, Quake III or Halo for example), Battlefront on the other hand is easy to pick up but it has zero depth, there is nothing to master, and carefully placed system of quick kill times and randomness will make sure that everyone gets their couple of kills per game even if they can't aim. • Titanfall DLC made free on Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC

  • ammobox 11/03/2015

@BigDannyH Titanfall sold five times less than Destiny or MW2 but it's still top played game amongst my friends, hell even when you get a glimpse at top played games among friends of Microsoft employees when they show off new dash update you'll see Titanfall on the first place.
Of course Titanfall is not going to get a lot of new players, but the people who tasted it still play it to this day.

    >I've heard on various podcasts and read on message boards. Mostly it seemed to me that people thought it was ok, put it down and then never came back.
Yeah, this narrative was pushed on forums and social media. It was repeated enough times from various sources so people now believe it.

@null every 1080p Xbox One and PS4 title except Horizon 2 uses crappy post-process AA, yes. Reply +2
  • ammobox 11/03/2015

@IronSoldier yes it does, because 792p with 2x MSAA produce more clear and crisp image than 1080p with blur filters aka FXAA and such. Reply 0
  • ammobox 11/03/2015

@BigDannyH Idiot, MP scene in Titanfall is alive and well, even European servers are always full.
Halo: Reach for example is another game that still to this has big multiplayer community that logs in to play every day, but they only play on standard maps while DLC playlists are dead because there were never any discount or sale on Halo: Reach map packs and they are still not free, so nobody plays on DLC maps. This is the biggest problem with Halo: Reach.
Titanfall does not have that problem because Respawn cares about it's community. It's the first online multiplayer game on console i know that does not have that kind of problem with DLC maps, everyone has DLC maps in Titanfall because of these 85% discounts on Season Pass. And now even people who missed discounts twice will have DLC maps.

@IronSoldier Yet because of it's MSAA anti-aliasing, Titanfall is the most crisp looking game on Xbox One, it looks crispier than any 1080p title except Forza Horizon. Reply +2

  • ammobox 07/03/2015

King-Kong on Xbox 360 was A PORT FROM PS2 with minor improvements on Xbox 360, main challenges for the developer of King-Kong was getting it to run on PS2 hardware, they didn't cared for 360 port.
If you look at something like PGR3 for Xbox 360, it still looks just as good if not better than any modern 360 racer, it pushes a lot of objects on screen while maintaining a smooth framerate, but it was a launch 360 title.
PGR3 developer actually tried to make a decent looking game and succeeded. King-Kong developers just didn't care.

  • ammobox 04/03/2015

Wonder how many times will i have to press X to pick up a fucking ammo in this game, i hope at least 10000000 times just like in the New Order!
Will there be a three hour long section in the middle of this First Person Shooter where you can't shoot people and all you can do is walk and talk, while completing pick up and bring it to me quests? Because that is what made New Order so good and old school! Because if the most action packed and fun level in the game is 20 minute opening and everything after it becomes more and more boring that means we have a real Old School shooter on our hands, 10/10 best FPS of the year guys, it's truth!
Betheshda did not paid money for that 10/10 reviews in press, it's simply not possible.

I also hate Call of Duty and it's simple, streamlined game design, an FPS where everything explodes you shoot at your enemies a lot or watch action packed cutscenes with explosions and shit and have fun? Fuck no! I want to walk around rebel base and talk with NPCs. Bring me another Wolfenstein the New Order!

@Mr-Writer Share factory was Sony's response for original Upload Studio.
In Upload Studio i can cut my clip and upload it in the time of intermission between the multiplayer matches and then continue playing seamlessly, my friends will see the clip in my feed and will comment, like and share it.
In Share factory to merely cut the clip i have to SHOT DOWN the game, but nobody in my friends list will see the clip anyway, all can do is upload it youtube or something, why did they even released the share factory if your friends can't see your clip, if you have to go to your computer in order to upload that video to some video sharing service you may as well use normal video editing software to do so, not something that shuts down your game in the process.

  • Towerfall is adding an Anita Sarkeesian skin

  • ammobox 10/02/2015

@dean0null But I have nothing against diversification, it's good thing! You can create whole new game genres that are target only girls, nobody will stop you from doing that, everybody will be happy that way.

But what Anita and the "game jurnos" are trying to do is NOT diversification. What they are saying basically is "YOUR games must be made how WE want them to be made, or they will get bad press". You see? They are not trying to create a new genre for new audience, instead, they are attacking old audience and saying that we are bad people, we are rotten audience because we like games with male protagonists, or 18+ games with violence or games with damsels in distress, basically we are bad because we are men who like women and men who are enjoying our video games that were made for us. Instead, they say, OUR video games should be made for THEM.
They are parasites, without bringing nothing new to the table they tamper with our types of games.

Video games were always made for boys, girls started to play them only because the boys do, because they are popular. If video games will stop being what they are, if they abandon it's audience, the audience will abandon them too, and the girls will follow because suddenly video games are not popular anymore. It's that simple.
Listen to Anita, support "gaming journalists" opinions and you will be left with dead hobby.

@simiang it has been "fixed". But the voice chat has been hidden behind menus in settings, and after you have activated it you AND people around still need to press the back button and right on d-pad EVERY TIME you enter a new activity for the voice chat to work, who is gonna do that? • ammobox 26/12/2014

What about unskippable cut-scenes in the missions that we have to do over and over again, just how incompetent the developer must be to design the cutscenes to be unskippable when he knows that the players will be completing missions over and over again. What about long loading times between mission and orbit, between orbit and pointless tower that supposed to be a social hub to find new friends and raid teams but it was not working at all cause you could not even talk to people that are near you? The tower is essentially pointless. Bungie pioneered voice communication in console games, in Halo 2, you could even hear what your enemies were saying in their headsets when they were near you, it was a social experience, everyone was talking to each other, that was a huge part of what made Halo 2 great. And now the new Bungie have released a game were you can't even communicate with other people if they are not your friends.
This game is a mess, and it's not good or fun one. This article is nothing but paid advertisement.

@blarty P2P is only better for fighting games with rollback netcode, that's it. But in case of FPS and other action games with a lot of players, Titanfall is a living breathing proof that dedicated server is better in every way for that kind of games, even my friend who lives in the middle of nothing in Russia with an ADSL connection now can play this game without complaining how shitty his connection is every minute. Reply 0
  • ammobox 16/06/2014

@blarty that's a lot of text with absolutely no point behind it.
If what you want to say is that P2P is better, then you are wrong. Azure has decent ping all over the world, even 150 milliseconds ping to a dedicated server is better than unreliable P2P connection, because suddenly you don't have that little ugly thing called host advantage anymore. Lag-switch is not a thing anymore. I live in europe, but i can play with USA in Titanfall, i do have 160 milliseconds ping with them, but it does not feel like it, because i'm connecting with a server with a lot of bandwidth, not some user with shitty internet connection and low bandwidth while his mom watching a netflix in the other room.

@Goldenspork Why do people downvote you? Sony blatantly lied on multiple occasions on their conference and that's not good at all, any sane being that not a stupid sony fanboy would upvote this, well, this says a lot about Eurogamer community.
Even if people here were smart sony fanboys they would upvote this, because nobody want their favourite company to be degenerative lying false advertising scum like sony is right now, and the only way to change it is to let the voices of complaints and exposure of this false advertisement be heard, not silenced by downvotes.

it looks horrible in 60 fps, all cinematic feel is lost, you can see flaws in animation, everything is moving too fast like it was filmed with the cheap camera, come on!
MGS2 was a 60fps game, but the cutscenes were 30fps! There's a reason for that. I'm gonna play on 360 if the cutscenes in next-gen version is going to be in 60 fps.

Titanfall on Xbox 360 makes me want to puke because of it's unstable fps, this inconsistency of framerate is just extremely nauseating to the eye, i hope i will never play a game with unlocked fps ever again. You know why Titanfall is exclusive to MS platforms? The answer is: Azure servers. That's the real next-gen improvement for that kind of game on consoles.

    Now, let's break it down:
Live subscribers pay 60 bucks a year for steady server-based gameplay, the next-gen.
PSN subscribers pay 60 bucks a year for outdated P2P gameplay, past-gen.

Looks like Sony have cheated their consumers once again.
