    @Nisa

    Yes, Nisa, perhaps that is the case. There may be other reasons though, not necessarily sinister.

    1, They played it, didn't think it GOTY material.

    2, They don't own a Nintendo Wii U so haven't played it (this is the reason I haven't played it).

    3, The game hasn't been out that long and so hasn't had a chance to 'bed in' to the collective consciousness after the initial eupohria.

    4, There's some mutual backslapping going on within the Western industry. It's not so much about what they like, but what they commend.

    5, Something else I haven't thought of.

    I just thought it noteworthy that the game that saw the most hyperbolic reviews I've read all year, voted as GOTY by EG (with a lot of people agreeing in the comments) did not get mentioned by any of the devs quoted in this article.

    So I noted it.

    This theory is one I thought of too. Can we have any devs on here comment as to why they think Nintendo got largely overlooked?

    Not even a mention of Mario, in fact only one mention of one Nintendo game.

    Not sure what to make of that.

    @George-Roper

    George I honestly am beginning to believe you are mentally ill. You've not once directly addressed any point I've made. You asked me to go into detail, which I did, after absorbing patiently a LOT of petty, baseless insults.

    The result?

    "I started to address them but then stopped. Please see below a spout of pointless rhetoric, arguing against points that you have not made."

    I'm a patient man, I really try, but I can't spend any more time on you George. You dragged me down to your level and pounded me into submission through sheer experience.

    Happy gaming.

    @George-Roper George

    I'm going to rise above your name calling and baiting and I'm going to comply with your request. I'm going to overlook the fact that you're being emotional and a bit weird and go for it. Here goes:

    To the PC lot.

    We get it that you can achieve equal/better performance on a medium to high spec PC but you do understand that, as these consoles mature in their lifecycle, the quality and performance will increase.

    (POINT 1, YOU DO UNDERSTAND THAT GAMES IMPROVE IN QUALITY DURING A CONSOLE'S LIFE CYCLE.)

    All the while the performance sliders on your PC games will go down, unless you fork out significant sums to keep up with hardware requirements.

    (POINT 2, AS YEARS PASS, MINIMUM/RECOMMENDED SPECS BECOME HIGHER. THE REQUIREMENTS TO RUN A GAME SMOOTHLY WITH ALL SLIDERS AT MAXIMUM BECOME MORE STRINGENT. FEWER PCs ARE ABLE TO MEET THESE REQUIREMENTS AS TIME PASSES, UNLESS THEY HAVE COMPONENTS UPGRADED. THIS IS MY 'SLIDERS GO DOWN' COMMENT ELABORATED UPON.)

    PS4 is dictating the bar to the publishing and developing industry, who will jump through hoops to squeeze everything they can into a game and make a profit.

    (POINT 3, CONSOLE GAMING IS WHERE THE MOST MONEY IS TO BE EARNED IF YOU ARE A DEVELOPER OR PUBLISHER. AT THE MOMENT, BASED ON ALL EVIDENCE THAT WE CAN REGARD AS GENERALLY RELIABLE, THE PS4 SEEMS TO BE THE MORE POWERFUL CONSOLE, SO HAS SET THE BAR. SONY AREN'T GOING TO UPGRADE THE PS4 HARDWARE SO, IN ORDER TO HAVE THE BEST LOOKING/SOUNDING GAMES (WHICH USUALLY SELL MORE COPIES AND MAKE MORE MONEY), DEVS WILL HAVE TO OPTIMISE THEIR CODE TO PERFORM AS WELL AS IT CAN WITHIN STRICTLY DEFINED CRITERIA.)

    Those same companies are dictating to the PC crowd what *you* must do in order to keep up. And if you can't, it's tough luck. Consoles' *next* gen is about 7 years away. Yours is as many months.

    (POINT 3 EXPLAINED HOW THE CONSOLE GAMER DICTATES THE REMIT THAT THE DEVS HAVE ("THIS IS MY MACHINE, THERE ARE MILLIONS OF US WITH THEM, MAKE A GREAT GAME THAT FITS INTO IT"). X DRIVES Y.

    IN THE CASE OF PCs, WITH MINIMUM/RECOMMENDED SPECS GENERALLY BECOMING HIGHER OVER TIME, IT IS Y THAT DICTATES TO X ("THIS IS OUR GAME, IT WILL NOT PERFORM WELL ON ALL PCs, YOU MUST MEET CERTAIN CRITERIA. IF YOU DO NOT, THEN THIS GAME WILL NOT PERFORM WELL OR MAY BE COMPLETELY UNPLAYABLE")

    THE POINT (POINT 4) ABOUT THE PCs NEXT GEN BEING AROUND 7 MONTHS AWAY WAS EUPHEMISTIC, AND THERE TO ILLUSTRATE A POINT. POORLY CHOSEN ANYWAY AS THERE ARE NO MAJOR INCREMENTAL 'GENS' IN PC GAMING, MORE OF AN ORGANIC MATURATION.

    I'm not being down on you lot, you've made a choice that you're clearly happy with; paying more for higher quality. But you really don't need to go on explaining it.

    POINT 5: I REALLY AM NOT BEING DOWN ON PC GAMERS, BUT ONLY I KNOW THIS AS FACT BECAUSE I AM ME. I HONESTLY THINK IF YOU PAY A LOT OF MONEY FOR A HIGH END PC THEN YOU WILL GET TO PLAY GAMES PERFORMING AT HIGHER LEVELS THAN PS3 OR PS4 LEVELS. YOU PAY MORE; YOU GET MORE.

    We get it.

    I HONESTLY THINK WE DO.

    So obviously the 7 month thing was wide of the mark but it was just illustrative. I really don't see that I've been "utterly ignorant or 'uninformed'" in any of my other points.

    There. Oh and thanks from my 5yr old boy who got to play 'Lego Batman 2' 13 minutes past his bedtime while I wrote this.

    Excuse the CAPS, I was trying to make the additions stand out, and please also excuse any spelling or grammatical mistakes; I really do have to get this lad into bed.

    @George-Roper

    I don't mind questions, George, it's just the name calling. It makes you sound less intelligent than I'm guessing you might be. I can't see that I've said anything all that inflammatory. If I was wrong on some points (I was definitely right on more than half of them) then please accept my apologies.

    You'll be taken a lot more seriously if you stop with all the anger. I'm really not an idiot, or clueless. I think you know that too but you're frustrated at what you perceive as misinformed (not uninformed) people out there giving opinions on a subject which A) is close to your heart and B) you don't agree with.

    I also think you're frustrated because you can't articulate yourself very well, which is where the anger comes from.

    Try to be lucid and constructive in your next post, and I'll mark it for you!

    George you really need to calm down. Stop being so rude to people like Redperil. It does nothing but dilute any salient points you might want to make.

    Try and bring the emotion out of it, you sound a bit laughable; like a child that should have gone to bed an hour ago (not an insult, I have children and am using an analogy).

    OK man, it's cool. Nothing like a bit of healthy debate.

    It really was about the repetition of the facts from current PC gamers (as well as a bit of the uppity sneering) when most people basically understand the pros and cons.

    One day, one fine day, I might find myself in a position where I have the space and wealth to own them ALL!

    @ATARI

    Hi Atari. Bit harsh calling me ignorant but there you go. I've got broad shoulders; I can take it.

    First things first, I used to be a PC gamer but lost the room (literally) for my desktop setup when I became a parent a few years back. I spent what I could on a gaming laptop for the dining room but lacked the capital to buy anything with any real oomph behind it.

    I know what PC gaming is like and how it works and I know that, as time passes, more powerful hardware is required in order to have every slider on 'highest'. So in order to maintain performance you either reduce some settings or beef up your hardware. It doesn't matter what you 'tell me now', history has borne this out as fact.

    Anyway, my point was really aimed at those who are bleating on about how they are currently enjoying 1440p or whatever and "Can't believe" that console gamers are accepting 1080p as next gen. Like a Ferrari owner strutting around a Ford Dealership, sneering at folks who are quite excited about upgrading to an exec range family car.

    You yourself say you "would hope" that some PC gamers aren't trying to rub peoples' faces in it. I put it to you, sir, that some of them are.

    The facts are the console architecture is what it is for the next 5+ years and they play the tune to which the devs will dance. It's not the consoles that get optimised, as you put it, but the software.

    I'm happy for you guys, I really am. You've paid extra money for the initial outlay and, in most examples, for the near future at least, will reap the reward.

    Circumstances outside of the realms of gaming have led me down this path to console only but I'm more than happy to be here. I'm having fun!

    720 to 1080 is a 50% upward movement.

    1080 is 150% of 720.

    720 is 66.666% of 1080.
