A little bit tempted by this for my Xperia Play but I'll probably wait for more reviews and see how bad the slow down is. The controls should at least be better with a proper pad. Reply +4
  • Turning Your Android Phone into a Retro Gaming Powerhouse

  • Gibroon 06/12/2011

I got an Xperia Play earlier this year and have been loving it so far. Although I have dabbled in a few retro games, I much prefer playing the newer games that are out there, some of which cost peanuts or are free.

I'm currently playing Galaxy of Fire 2 which is free to play and a more than adequate Elite clone. Slick graphics, nice menus, blueprints to manufacture. wingmen to fly with etc. Retro is nice but there is a lot of new stuff which is fresher and more intriguing imo.

  • Diablo 3 "feels better" with a game pad

  • Gibroon 23/09/2011

With a game like Diablo, using an analogue stick for character movement has a far better feel and gives you more control then constantly clicking to move somewhere imo. I can see the point about ranged attacks not being quite so accurate though.

So long as they don't dumb down the stats and skill trees. Dungeon Seige 3 was quite enjoyable but the lack of skills was obviously aimed too much towards consoles.

Definately pick this up later on. This is one of the very few games I'm interested in the 3D. Some of the vistas and viewpoints of both games are truly spectacular. Very glad they made a HD remake of these games, the choppy framerate and blurry graphics will now be rectified even though I loved them both on the PS2.

Having just watched some of the videos of LBP2 Beta, I am gob smacked at the possibilities of this game. I can understand that not all people are going to create levels but you have to give a big hand to Media Molecule for making this kind of game(s) possible.

Looking forward to this a lot.

I skipped through the article so I didn't read too many spoilers but from the bits I read, it looks like this game is shaping up nicely.
Enjoyed Fahrenheit although the plot went a bit crazy so looking forward to this.

What I find quite odd is that Edge reviewed the game on the PS3 version and gave it a 10.

Sounds bloody horific on the PS3.

  • Gibroon 20/11/2009

Played a bit of this in the afternoon and can't wait till the missus goes to bed to so I can play more. I love the weight of the controls, the sounds of the guns and the destruction that can be had from guns to tanks. Although it is 4 months away, I'm willing to skip MW2 due to the more open structure of the maps in BC2.

    Great stuff!

  • Exclusive: LittleBigPlanet Expert's Guide - Level Design

  • Gibroon 08/10/2008

Although I would agree that the majority of people who get the game will not publish a level, the game is extremely inspiring to others.

I probably won't have the time to make to many levels but once you start playing around with the editor and playing other user generated levels, you start to see possibilities and get ideas that you would put into a level.

Playing this online with a few pals is great fun and it's just an incredibly charming game.

    "some possible graphical improvements"

That made me snigger, nobody is going to dare hype a game on the PS3 after Haze.

Anyway, glad this is coming to the PS3. I played the demo on my dated PC and it seemed to drip with atmosphere so very pleased that it's on its way.

I was looking forward to a bit of co-op with this game but the review(s) has turned me off far too much to warrant a buy or even a bargain bin.

    @morriss
sorry for the misquote, it is true that people are buying the PS3 regardless of all it's faults due to the playstation brand. The majority of purchasers really aren't as clued up as forumites and will buy not really knowing what is coming up.

A friend of mine who is into gaming in a fairly big way, hadn't seen any footage of LBP until I showed him recently, therefore he isn't bothered about the continual delays. The same could be said about Home, which is a feature I wasn't really bothered about when I got my PS3, I would rather have the elusive in-game XMB.

A lot of what he said is quite true, I have had my PS3 from (almost) launch and there has been a load of delays, LBP, Killzone2, Home, Haze and others. When I bought my PS3 I certainly didn't believe the hype of the PS3. I felt it was very similar to the 360 in terms of power but the all in one box approach is what I liked about it(less cables for add-ons etc).

I think it was morriss who said in another thread that if the 360 had been more reliable, it probably would have thrashed the PS3 up to now. It certainly would have got my money.

For all it's trouble with delays and port problems, I really enjoy my PS3 which is what really gets on my tits about all this "my console is better than yours shit". The fact is, I'm enjoying my PS3 and a MS rep having a dig at Sony is not going to suddenly make me decide all my games are shit and I'm not enjoying myself. XBL is far better integrated than PSN, there is no doubt about it and Sony are going to be hard pushed to get anywhere close to it but at the moment, it is does a job.

PS3 still a bitch to code for, shock. When are Sony going to help 3rd party delopment teams because it seems they need a helping hand to get it up to par with the 360.

  • Gibroon 03/04/2008

The perks and upgrades definitely make COD4 stand out. It is still a very generic game and enjoyable, unless you don't like FPS. Reply 0
  • Gibroon 03/04/2008

Most FPS are generic in their very nature but it does help to have a few stand out moments that make it different from the others. I'm a bit worried that there will not be enough variation in characters and a lack of Big Boss Battles for the masse. Mind you CoD4 has none of these either and is very popular so I hope people don't expect massive purple aliens turning up in Haze cos it ain't going to happen.
I'm mostly looking forward to the co-op options in the game but the gameplay is where it really needs to be good.

The hype or anti-hype for this game is always going to make the reviews a bit awkward. If it gets the same treatment that RFOM and ends up being 6 or 7's in reviews it should still be an enjoyable game.

The whole pushing up against a wall is a pain in the arse. I would far prefer the usual standard these days of pressing a button to stick to a wall or cover. Too many times I've been kicked off cover with a slightly too heavy push on the analogue stick. It is just too damn fiddly at times. Reply 0

I'm not sure if I'll pick this up when it comes out in March. There may be too many other games to choose around the same time.

Sounds like a good game though and loved the original UT. Personally I think UT3 is different from both COD4 and Warhawk in gameplay, so I wouldn't have a problem owning all three. The problem is with Haze and Killzone2 coming out around about the same time, will people have the cash to spend after Christmas?

At least this game stops the talk of PS3 being graphically inept compared to the 360. ;)

8/10 is still a good, even great game depending on the player.

Knock a couple of points off for graphical glitches and dodgy AI.

  • Gibroon 08/11/2007

I was in a game shop the other day and a woman was moaning that her son couldn't play his PS2 games.

Yes, she had the 40gig version which may have something to do with the returns.

She also was quite willing to pay the extra £50 for 60 gig version.
