You need a copy of twilight princess, an SD card and to follow these instructions.

I didn't do it like this as I could install the WAD installer straight from an ISO as mine is modded.

Now they're ranting about piracy :(, but the key to this is you can install some emulators, scummvm and homebrew like media players.

A good link for some channels is including the WAD installer, WAD uninstaller, homebrew loader, snes, nes and sega emulators.

fixed nes emulator.
Edit:
OK.... after some testing the current homebrew loading channel doesn't really work, the media player freezes for example.
I've just tried loading it using the twilight princess hack and it works fine, so for the moment unless you just want the SNES, NES and Sega emulator channels then you do still need twilight princess :(

The folders are almost setup as you need them..... though the save and roms folders from the top bit need to go in a folder called snes9x.

Also the way it works is you put the wads you want to install ( or unistall ) in a folder "WAD" in the root of your sd card, then they all get installed.

Of the two sega emulators only the one with its name ending in Wii supports the classic controller.

Found a media player, worked with the video files I tried.... skipping through is a pain and you do need a GC controller.
But it does look pretty decent even on a 42" HDTV.

Can I uninstall the mod if want to? I just want to use it to play some DiVX files that the xbox 360/PS3 can not.

Yes, it can all be entirely removed.

Does softmodding invalidate your warranty, out of interest? Presumably if something softbricked it there's no way to restore to factory settings?

So is this something that Nintendo can fix in a firmware update or not?

Wouldn't mind trying it if they can't, obviously.

I guess it would, but like ecureuil said they can be uninstalled.

No ideas if nintendo can detect what you've done after unistallation I'm afraid.

As to divx playing I wouldn't expect much right now.... this stuff is only a few days old and there isn't a decent media player yet.... though there might be a dvd player, I'm playing around with stuff right now.

Once you have the WAD installer channel on your machine then you're golden, you can use it to install any other channels including the homebrew channel.

I don't know if the video I watched on Youtube was faked or not, I'll assume not for the moment, but this is quite unbelievable...

Right he had these VC games he'd obtained from wherever and according to the video one of them didn't work, but the Wii had effectively activated it because he could download the game from the shop channel even though he hadn't purchased it, which he shows in the video that his account had no games bought.

This is quite blatently stealing and is worse than just the old VC games as a quick search on google reveals you can get Wiiware games like this too.

Sorry if this sounds like I'm preaching because I'm not and have used emulators before and don't care but being able to do this to new software as well just seems wrong.

Can I play USA imported wii games on my PAL console yet?

That's really the only thing I'm after...

I get this real quizzical look on my face when I see people pissing around with stuff like this when you can just use your PC for it.

I do it because I'm a nerd :p

But also because it's easier to use once it's set up and a lot easier to take a wii over to a mates house if you want to.

Also using the classic controller is a lot better than my xbox 360 pad.

I love using the modded xbox instead of the PC because it's plugged into my telly, and you know your save games will be there for the life of the console, wheras on the PC I always end up losing them somewhere.

"Save games"? What kind of new fangled shit do you play on MAME?

Can you play NTSC versions of Wii games which you have illegally downloaded off the internet and burnt to disc?

Assuming for a moment that I've already paid for the PAL version. 'Cos I know you're all picky about that.
LOL... nope.

None of this gets around the drive check, only a mod chip can do that.

The reason I posted this was because it lets people with unmodded consoles run emulators on their machine.

Now personally I don't feel guilty running emulated versions of games that I already own or for translations of japanese only roms.

Don't get me wrong mind I will probably try this at some pointwhen I'm bored... and I know your all funny about 50hz and such, whilst I mention this can the mythical 60hz American VC games be made to run on a PAL Wii?

SNES games

Fair enough, I can see why you would want SNES save games. Stil can't see the attraction in faffing around with a Wii to run emulators, though. Seems to be a case of doing it just for the sake of doing it.

Apparently the Broken Swords don't work too well though.

And now I can see the reason behind actually going out of your way not to run emulators on the Wii.

Fair play to dodgy for posting the thread, but wouldn't life be boring if everyone just agreed all the time?

Gives people an excuse to pretend that the Wii controller adds something to games "by default" when there's no advantage it could bring over and above playing the games normally.

LOL

I find it interesting and a few others might find it useful.

If no one cares not a worry for myself.... but I might finally get around to playing the translation japanese secret of mana.

just like fluffy I always seem to lose my save games on the PC, hopefully this'll sort that out :p

The main worry for me is that Nintendo will detect it somehow and block the Wii, or track it down or something equally bad...

Otherwise I'd be all over the idea for a way to play games as I also seem to lose my saves on PC.

Meh. So emu's can work. So what. A few unstable emulators isn't much to get excited about. Kudos to the peeps who did the softmod however.

Good things might be ahead though.
I hope they port Xbox Media Center but I guess that's a pipe-dream.

Pipedream eh?.

Will start off as a homebrew .elf you can run from an sd card \o/

I don't know about the whole 720p thing, but I'm guessing some people will be working on that.

Just going to bump this.... changed the frontpage around a bit.

It actually does make a surprsingly good media player, even if you do need the TP hack every time at the moment.

But surprisingly easy and quick to do it to run the media player.
