    Jennifer's Body - 8/10

Trashy, popcorn, weird, but very watchable. Liked it.

House at the end of the Street

From the start, yeah this is daft, that couldn't happen then the last scene twist made it completely stupid. Jennifer Lawrence in a vest was about the most engaging thing, even then, hurry up and end. Elizabeth Shue got old which makes me feel old.

    2/10

It doesn't, the machinations of the plot behind the love stories do.

But I had drunk a reasonable amount of red wine when I wrote that so..

    The Dark Knight Rises

    4/10

Solid performances from Bale, Freeman, Caine, Oldman & Hathaway, but the story?
    Seriously?
    What a pile of dross.

I watched the first two this week, so I could get back up to speed for watching TDKR. Can't believe this was created by the same people. Batman Begins and The Dark Knight were masterpieces compared to this.

    Loved the Batcopter though.

Actually better than expected. Now, to go back though the thread and see what you fuckers found to hate it with... :)

I think there was a discussion a while back about how the time travel didn't make logical sense or something. Didn't really bother me, since that's the case with most time travel movies.

I quite liked the sequel to be honest.

If you can read this you really need to fiddle with your forum settings.

I still haven't seen this, although I will as soon as the Blu-ray drops to £8 or less.

Acts of Love / Carried Away (1976)

    Story 7/10
    Hopper 10/10

Stars Dennis Hopper. Without Hopper I probably wouldn’t have bothered to check this out. Hopper makes the whole film worth watching. The square screen ratio was kinda off putting, but I got over it.

Joseph Svenden (Dennis Hopper) is a middle-aged schoolteacher who lives on a farm with his dying mother. In his simple life there are no excitements, even in long-time relationship with a widow. 17 year old Catherine (Amy Locane) joins the class, and makes advances towards Hopper, who fails to resist. Things get difficult.

What seemed really bizarre was Amy Locane, who looks about 28, and trying to act like a 17 year old. It just looks really weird.

    Battleship 1/10

I thought it was going to be rubbish. But they actually outdid themselves. It's a load of nonsense from beginning to end. And where was Liam Neeson? He was only in a few minutes, essentially they hired him for a day's work so he could be a name billing on the poster.

I like dumb action sometimes, but this was much worse than that. The script was beyond bad.

    Upside Down

Visually very interesting, although a headfuck for most of the time trying to figure out what the hell was going on and the 'physics' of it all were beyond laughable. Always good to see Barry from Auf Wiedersehen, Pet getting work.

Script was cringe-worthy in places, but I still managed to sit through it all and eke a moderate amount of enjoyment, but then I am a sucker for high-concept sci-fi.

What is this emo shit love story on a knock-off pirate Russian DVD / 10.

    Avengers Assemble 6/10

It was entertaining fun but felt a bit hollow. Even moreso that the usual comic book movies. 5/10 +1 for Johannson in tight leather pants.

Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning - 5.5/10

The opening sequence was really quite brilliant. Both incredibly violent and disturbing. Then it kind of goes a bit shit until a car chase and then it gets good.

The fight sequences are very well done and are pretty savage. Just the bits in between are not that great. JCVD is superb though. He was by far and away the best thing in Expendables 2. I may check out some more of his recent films. Always though he was always underrated.

Hard Target is still the bomb!

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

I really liked the last two Universal Soldiers, the latest one was pretty trippy in places. Pretty sure those strobes nearly destroyed my brain. The fight in the sports store is excellent, it all looks very painful.

    Love (2011) - 70%

Watched via Lovefilm instant. Interesting and thought provoking sci-fi in the vein of 2001 and Solaris, touching on issues of isolation, mankind's nature, destructive tendencies and such existential stuff.

I'm not quite sure if I totally understand it all so will give it another watch.

Not seen JCDV yet. Just checked Netflix US and it's got Derailed and Assassination Games, both of which I've not seen.

Oh yes, those damn strobes! A bit much methinks.

Loved the film though. JCVD has never been in anything that weird before.

What was with the Colonel Kurtz thing at the end? That make up was outlandish. Also though the fight scene in the armoury with was excellent.

Yeah, the Apocalypse Now referencing was a bit too on-the-nose there. He looked like a cookie. But I liked how insane everything had gotten.
