@Deckard1 yep, it was good but the end made me laugh. People have compared the child-catcher dude with Michael Jackson in terms of looks.

Anyways, this evening we watched The Exorcism of Emily Rose. 8/10. Really interesting cross between courtroom drama and exorcism horror. Certainly one that encourages debate about the burden of proof and science vs faith. Is its being based on a true story genuine, or a cinematic device like in Fargo?

Girl With The Dragon Tattoo- 70%
Fincher version, haven't seen the Swedish ones or read the books, and ummm, looooong is the first thing that comes to mind.
40% of it felt like Craig and Mara staring at photos,or computer screens or documents. Pretty dull.
Last hour picked up though, so much so that I want to know what happens next now.

    My Dinner With Andre

Oddly captivating despite the slow start and self-indulgence.

    Machine Gun Preacher

Not quite sure what to make of this, as it was not what I expected (though I knew the title would be misleading somewhat). It seemed that the film swept through some plot points really quickly (Childer's finding God was covered in a matter of minutes), but it didn't detract from the story too much.

Butler was as watchable as always, his character was obviously a dick, and whilst he was doing good things for the kids of Sudan, it was all in aid of him striving to feel like he was a better man, even though deep down, he was always going to be somewhat of a dick.

I'd actually like to see more real footage of the real Sam Childer, and try and make my own impression of what the real man is actually like, because he's doing some admirable things, even if you can't agree with his methods.

Definitely a film that raises some questions, even if it's not as fleshed out as I should have been. Still worth watching, but don't let the title fool you into thinking this is an all-out action film, because it's not.

I quite liked Machine Gun Preacher, it's definitely an interesting story.

    The Devils Double

Reasonably entertaining. Again it's an interesting story, although I'm curious how true it is.

    Sinister 5/10

Interesting premise but you can see the jumps coming a mile off and the atmosphere was lacking. Though i'm not sure if that was due to poor film making or the girls a few rows back screaming and giggling at everything (including someone opening a crisp packet).

I also thought the villain looked like a demonic Michael Jackson. The acting was all over the place, though Ethan Hawke was decent, even if looks like Gordon Freeman when wearing glasses.

    Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter

I dunno, I was in the right mood for this. Tea-time movie whilst I was waiting for something else, lots of action, ridiculous, looks good. He needed a better beard to be fair - they should've merged this and that one Daniel Day Lewis is doing.

    7/10

    Safety Not Guaranteed

Two interns and a journalist check out a newspaper ad written by someone seeking a time travel partner ('Must bring your own weapons. I have only done this once before.'). Funny and sad in turns, almost Napoleon Dynamite-y in places. Shame it was so short, I think it could've kicked up a gear and really tried something different.

    Rock of Ages

The first song went on too long, quite a boring film, you just want it to end but no, another song. I don't check my watch much but did for this. Tom Cruise was okay but again, boring after the initial scene. Mamma Mia is more fun and entertaining.

Village of the Damned (1995 remake)

Completely forgot about this one. Bit shite really. Has some good ideas, some camp but all of it is so poorly executed and generally very underwhelming.

    3.5/10

    Tropic Thunder - 2/10

Somehow I thought this might be good, despite hating most Stiller/Ferrell films. But it was no exception. Think I smiled once. It's just such terrible comedy, there's no jokes, just aggressive idiocy over and over.

Why those idiots are still being paid to "act" in comedies is beyond me. I've literally not laughed even once at anything Stiller and Ferrell have produced, it's all absolutely cringeworthy.

I really enjoyed Tropic Thunder; definitely think it's Stiller's best film (not that he has a great track record). Downey Jr. was also amazing. Tom Cruise's performance was overrated. To each their own, I suppose.

Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief

Was OK I guess. Started off quite well and then quickly went downhill. Plot was far too easy to second-guess what was going to happen and Steve Coogan seemed badly miscast as Hades.

Entertaining enough to watch with kids but hardly a Harry Potter beater.

Had an unforeseen Mel Gibson weekend so far

Payback 9/10 hidden gem, gets better every time I see it. Terrific screenplay and characters, and a classic anti hero.

Get the Gringo 8/10 Entertaining, a pleasant surprise, he reprises the Payback role a little, but that might just be his lack of range TBH

catching up with a few this weekend with a blockies 4 for 10 deal
really wanted lake mungo that i've seen mentioned on here recently but no luck

    yesterday -
hunger games - pretty true reflection of the book, which i enjoyed, but suffers from the need to tailor it to the 12 cert...still kept it fairly dark in places ...nice to see the girl from orphan getting work...7/10

prometheus - could have been so much more but enjoyed it more than i was expecting to....can see pretty much every point made by the haters and i did feel it was recreating an alien film by rote at times but i've seen worse and would watch the inevitable sequel...6.5/10

    today -
    the pact
    cabin in the woods

I felt I had to keep explaining THG to my wife, I'm not sure it did do such a great job of portraying the book.
