Lol. My brother has Sky HD so I just sent him a text to ask if he thought 169 was worth it for what you got. His reply reads as follows:

    "Is it fuck."

Still, now I've got a woman-type-person moving in soon, I might get it, as that usually means watching more telly....

I like your brother! Speaks my language!

Sky HD is rubbish. ITV isn't HD so Coronation Street HD is out. So what's the point.

Who the fuck would want to see that Blanche woman or Hayleyman in HD?
I'd tap that tall leggy bird from the factory. Cracking shelf as well.

Give yourself 5 or gig, you're worth it.

    The pre-op.

Speaking of Samantha Janus, does anybody know her brother Hugh?

There was some interesting news on the Freeview HD front recently, which could mean that that a Freeview HD channel is launched by the BBC as early as next year.

But you'll need a new box. And that box could be out of date in a year or two. And the channel will only broadcast in the middle of the night by using bandwidth taken up by other channels during the day.

    :-(

Isn't the new Sony Freeview adapter thing for the PS3 supposed to be Freeview HD ready?

Freeview HD rollout will depend on which television region you are in. Most regions should have HD Freeview by 2015. That's what I heard.

2015?!! Surely we will have full holo-porno-decks by then and will never have to leave the house.

Yeh, it's supposed to be. Not sure how that will work in practise what with the standards not being completely settled. Might be sorted out in a firmware upgrade I assume. Could be a good way into Freeview HD I suppose.

    There's a 30 installation fee, so it's 200 altogether.

Sky are cheeky, it was 199 last month with self install. Now 169 plus install.

I wonder if they would sell it for 169 with self install?

    Hi all,

I really want sky HD and have done for some time. I got a new HD TV at the weekend and want to now get Sky HD to support it. Now I have been with Sky for years and have Sky + but the one reason putting me off getting it is the 300 for the box.

Does anyone have any ideas or know a way they will drop the price, e.g say I'm going to leave to go to Virgin or something?

    Thanks!!

If you move to Virgin and get V+ you only pay 75 installation. If you have the XL tv package the V+ service is free every month (it's only 5 on top of your bill if not). This box comes with an HDMI port.

The downside is that you only get BBC HD at the moment..

Sky know they have a semi captive audience so the Virgin threat won't wash with them. I managed to get it for 199 including installation.

I am still convinced that normal channels looked better before but the HD content does look stunning.

It is worth the monthly cost, especially with the amount of HD channels which are set to launch this year.
It's just a pitty the setup cost is so pricey.

I contemplated Sky HD ages ago but baulked at the 10 monthly fee. I can accept the price of the box OR a monthly fee but not both.

In hindsight I'm glad I held off. Changed my broadband to Be (BT), crazy fast/truly unlimited (ime anyway, two *heavy* downloaders in our house and no noticeable throttling) and now I simply download tonnes of hd mkv's of anything I want. Fantastic. Oh, and MKV2VOB ftmfw, enables easy playback of mkv's on the PS3.

HD footy would be nice though.

How many Co-ax inputs are there in the back of an HD box? is it 2 like sky plus or is it three?

If you don't subscribe to SKY-HD do you basically then have a better sky+ box with the ability to view one channel and record two? Plus an HDMI output plus the free HD channels?

I was about to push the button on Sky HD, and one of the new 1080p Toshiba 37 inch TV's today.

But then the Mrs decided to blow 2,000 on fucking curtains, so that's the end of that.

They'd better be HD curtains or I'll be wiping a certain part of my anatomy on them every night.

If you already have sky+ & multiroom is the 10 a month for HD added on to that?
  • Deleted user 7 May 2008 20:18:11
    Oh, how rubbish.
  • Deleted user 7 May 2008 20:24:34
For those who want Sky HD downstairs and Sky plus/multiroom upstairs with ALL channels, the current price is 65 a month for all that...

    No one mentioned Freesat HD?

    Boxes available from Argos.

If you've already got Sky+ the you've 99% likely got a quad LNB on your dish (unless you're using a communal dish for one of your feeds, and the blokes installing your kit were tight arses).

Just get the Freesat box and plug it in. Move your Sky box to another room, or plonk them one on top of the other for ultimate pimpage.

Tonnes of Sky HD stuff is just upscaled SD. A good alternative is V+ HD - it upscales the piccie regardless so is pretty equivalent plus a million times better VOD system.

    +1

Fuck all HD channels (only BBC atm) but some decent HD VOD content (again, not as much as I would like), PVR and fantastic SD upscaling all for a flat 75 installation and no extra charge if on the XL package, it was a no brainer for me.

The lack of HD is a pisser, but hopefully that will improve.

Right so bit the bullet tonight and called Sky to see what they could offer.

Started with the usual Virgin have offered it me cheaper etc etc and they replied as I though that Virgin are in a word crap and that they have 1 HD channel and a load of other reasons as to why they are not that good. I then tried the old I'm a loyal customer crap been with you years etc etc. This seemed to work better and he basically said he could offer me the box for 199 and half price installation at 30 as long as I also took multi room which is another 10 a month as well as the 10 for Hd. Tempting but don't really need it so advised that wasn't any good. They basically said that was all they could do. Just before the call ends surprise, surprise he asks to check my phone number and account to see what he can offer. He goes away, comes back and says he can do the box for 199 and installation for full price 60 but don't have to take multi room. That was good enough for me and I took!!

    Thanks for all your help.

I am really hoping the competition from freesat leads Sky to axe the 10 a month charge. If they do they will have at least one new HD subscriber before the start of next season.

So got my Sky HD fitted on Monday and must say I'm very impressed thus far. The football is amazing and some of the shows on the History channel and discovery are very impressive. A far leap over the standard picture. The most impressive thing for me was how much it improved the picture on non HD channels such as ITV etc.

The main disappointment is the limited amount of channels and the very limited HD content on Sky sports. I have only seen football, speedway and WWE Raw in HD and a lot of what they show is just standard. On the whole though with more channels and content on the way and the fact that the rumours are sky will drop the 10 charge in the Autumn I feel it was good purchase even if it is just football its well worth it.

I have Sky+ & Multi-room and did look at skyHD, then decided against it. Not enough channels to justify it atm, and whilst I don't mind watching big game footie matches, I only tend to watch tennis and boxing on the sport channels. Quite happy watching Blue Rays on my 42" LCD for now.

A mate has it and whilst some of the channels look nice, even he said he'd wished he'd waited a while.
