It's good for some stuff.. my 82 year old grandad uses it to keep in touch with the world and chat to family all over the place. But yeah, I could lose about 80% of the folks on my 'friend' list and not even notice.

Deleting someone from your Facebook is a great way of saying: 'Piss off, I never want to speak to you again' without having to speak to said person again. Also blocking them.

That being said, i'd migrate in a heartbeat if there were no ads and they got their privacy issues down. -

Registered 3 years agoJesus, Facebook is down.
I'm not bothered by it, but from a technical point of view, wow... You'd have thought they would have a million and one preventative measures and redundancy plans to avoid this.
Surprising for such a tech behemoth, but always the (unlikely) possibility of a successful attack. -

Registered 4 years agoSo last week I went to the pub with a number of colleagues, and it got a bit messy. Some girl took a picture of me in a not-so-sober and somewhat unflattering state, and put it up on Facebook.
I haven't been on Facebook for a while (as in I deleted my account months ago) so didn't realise it until some guy within the organisation I work with in another country sends me said picture as a response to a work email (the cheek of him). Turns out he's connected to the girl on FB, who probably has every second work colleague in her friend list it seems.
2 lessons learned:
1. Punch anyone trying to take drunken pictures of you in the face and destroy their phone shortly after
2. Still hating Facebook with a passion

Registered 6 years agoHave you thought of deleting it? Also, I think you can edit your security details so that you have to confirm a picture someone has tagged you in. -

Registered 4 years agoRemember I'm not actually on Facebook anymore so have no control over it. But I asked the girl to remove it (she said she was sorry which is fine but the lack of cop on is annoying to say the least - please think before you make such pictures public without consent especially when half the company can see them it seems) - unfortunately it has been grabbed and emailed (to me so far) only, I don't know if it's doing the rounds in their office though.
It wasn't tagged either (how could it), the guy who emailed it to me simply recognised my face. -

Registered 4 years agoLOL yeah. Well even if I had the urge to get back on it (I sure don't) I think I would now have to provide proof of identity such as passport etc. before doing that, no thanks. Especially not after having seen FB's scruffy kiddo employees down the pub the other day who I wouldn't trust a second with copies of those kind of documents.
Well I suppose that's the problem with the "social web" cr*p of today, let's face it FB isn't the only site you can post pics on, just need to be more careful who's taking pictures of you which tbh can be a challenge especially on a crowded party where everyone trigger-happily wields relatively high quality smartphone cameras now.
This is what those celebs depicted in Hello magazine et al must feel like, but at least they're living the celeb life while I don't have those benefits as a trade off! -

Registered 7 years agoJust registered my new little business on facebook and I find it's pretty broken. Been trying to add an event and couldn't. It worked only after I made a personal account and used that to administer the business page.
Bah, looks like it's in worse shape than it was when I left almost 2 years ago.PSN: DonOsito

Registered 8 years agoI think the majority of people probably don't care. For me, Facebook is one big rolling social experiment to see how much most people value their privacy compared to me. The answer is apparently quite a lot less. Thanks for expressing interest in my signature!

Friends.
Do you want other search engines to link to your Timeline?
Off.
So I don't show up in searches. Though I suppose if someone did a graph search for people who like Streetfighter New Zealand Cricket and
Star Trek I might pop up. -
