Just started playing Civ4 again, so this announcement was well timed. A DS version could well get my vote, although I might be tempted by a version on my 360 as well, depending on how it played.

    Stream lined and action packed!

I started up Civ4 again in preparation for the addon.

If they released Civ 2 on the DS I'd buy one instantly. Syndicate would be nice too.

Yeah, this thread makes we want to play Civ IV again now.

Annoyingly, I never got good at the game. I've won a few cultural/UN/space race victories, but as soon as I am at war (especially if I try to win by going to war), I fall so helplessly behind the peaceful civs that I just don't stand a chance.

I've just started Civ 4 for the first time (just begun a Huge terra map on marathon time \0/) and the first few goes did kind fail due to me being so used to Total War.

    /makes note: Civilisation not War

Try out blakes AI mod and then watch yourself get absolutely hammered. Its a right shock. The AI suddenly becomes awesome at war, including naval operations. Comes in the addon as standard so its good to get to grips with it.

You realise I'm going to have nightmares about that tonight...

DS version would be fairly awesome, although it will have to be very cleverly designed/butchered to fit the save games in the limited space.

Might give that blake's mod a go some time. I'd like to play against some decent AI after the bumbling nonsense of Medieval 2.

    Gamevideos.com has a trailer.

However, it is just FMV giving nothing away.

    It's gonna be on:

    360

    PS3

    Wii

    DS

...Not PSP. Because, and I quote, "it's s***".

For those getting back into Civ don't forget there's a Civ group here on EG. I keep threatening to start some PBEm games, will defo do that when the expansion comes out.

And I reckon the console game could be a lot of fun but will be to Civ on the PC as a wank is to an orgy with porn stars.

Look at the fucking size of their feet!

edit - I'm lagging behind by about a page I see...
This looks bad. There's something nice about the map presentation/graphics but the rest is nasty.

It's a lot of fun and pretty smooth after patching. It can slow down a bit after the game has been going on a while, only because players can tend to take an age to complete their turn. Doubly bad when one person is at war against the AI while everyone else has their head buried in the books or are out on the farm :) You can set turn time limits, iirc.

PBEM suffers none of those problems but obviously takes an age to complete a game. I really enjoy coming home and having a turn or two of Civ to look forward to. Playing a game against a forumite for over a year now and we are about to hit the 16 hundreds :) PBEM may take a while but by god does it rise the anticipation levels of the next turn to maddening heights :)
  • Deleted user 14 July 2007 22:56:39
    PBEM = ?

I presume that's just when you do a turn when you can and the other player like wise?

It does sound kinda cool, I'm just starting to get to grips with the game at last. I've just figured out that I was falling behind on research because I wasn't increasing my science spending for instance. Felt like a bit of an idiot after that one, especially as I was pulling in silly money!

Sorry Khani, I never really reacted to your posts in the group. Lack of time/no Civ installed/etc. lately. :)

Hope you weren't looking forward to the Wii version.

The Wii version of Firaxis Games' Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution has been delayed indefinitely, according to publisher 2K Games.

"Development for the Wii version of Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution is currently on hold," 2K Games told IGN. "We are focusing our attention on creating the best possible Civilization experience for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo DS platforms."

Hm, interesting. Probably makes sense - they said before they are not doing a PSP version because of their limited development resources, and the 360/PS3 versions will have more in common, so cancelling one of those wouldn't be of much use I guess.

I am waiting for the DS version, anyway (if it's good).

Considering the Wii and PSP versions of multiplatform games are usually pretty much the same that makes sense.

    I forgot about this game, I thought it was a bad dream... but here it is... again. ;_;

The screenshots don't look that bad. The only things I would consider worrying are the city screen and the civilopedia (or lack thereof). The rest of the content, while cutified and little simplified, seems to fit with the Civ that I know. Well, the barbarians are speaking now, but I don't think that's a bad idea. I imagine that the game is overall a bit like playing a small map in the Quick mode in Civ 4.

By the way, I installed Civ IV and the expansions recently and it's pretty much the best game ever.
