New job started, definately not liking this commuting rubbish!
Moving in now on the 10th.
Might have to set up a regular games night with fellow EGers, (the non-scary ones!)

I lived in an ex-council flat in Surrey Quays for a year or so, it was more of an emergency measure at the time but actually I quite enjoyed it. I had a great bike along the river to Westminster every day, there was some good shopping nearby, a nice park, the water (obviously) and a few decent pubs. It was also remarkably cheap for its location. Prices must have risen now that it's on the Jubbly line but I'd say take a look.

I'm looking at three- to four-bedroom houses in benighted borough of Bromley atm. Looking to move this time next year. Looking, and weeping. :(

I think you just described every affordable residential area in south-eastern England. :p

I lived just over Putney Bridge in Fulham for a few years. Nice in lots of ways except too bloody expensive and too full of Young Tories. ;p

Well if a gay super-hacker bond villan who lives on an island without power can, I've got a shot at least?

Regardless. Moving to London in January from a little town in Scotland. Been working for an Oil & Gas company in Aberdeen and they're flitting me to London.

Flying down this Friday for a 2 week lay of the land before the slightly intoxicating task of consolidating my entire house into a London bedroom. Biding with my sister in the mean time until I find somewhere. Anyone know of a room going?

Otherwise I'm just gonna use spareroom.com

Been trying to get down to London for years, just got lucky with this job!

Get yer fill of square sausage and beef ham while you still can son, you'll find any of that fine dining down here.

I've not had beef ham for years. Was that the stuff in a strange spice?

Thinly sliced beef from the hind leg as far as I can tell. My Glaswegian dad told me tales of legend from the Barrows about the stuff.

Ok, so searching for a house share in East London is proving a damn sight more difficult than I expected it would be. Anyone know of a room that's available now or soon?

What areas are you looking at, where do you need to travel to for work and what's your budget?

    Sorta centralish East aways, E1, E3, E9.

    400 - 600. Top end would be 700 I reckon.

Spareroom, gumtree. Gumtree seems to have lots of spam, makes it very difficult to filter through and find something genuine.

Looking for something a bit rickety, old, big but with good people!

@THFourteen yup, aware of that. Just unfortunate timing from work, not much I can do.

That's not too bad a budget, there should be something out there. Shoreditch/E1 would be pushing it, but hackney/mile end should be in that price range. There's dalston too you could have a look at. If you're keen on as low a spend as possible you could push the net out sort of north east-ish, places like bounds green are about the 400pm mark. All depends in how much commuting you want to put up with, you could find a nice place up in crouch end for the higher end of your budget but there's no tube. Good and bad sides to that.
