Everybody needs a mentor. Why? Because everybody sucks. There's nothing you can't achieve without a couple of montages, some training sequences where you very slowly learn life lessons and a frank lowdown on how to hit on hot chicks. These 20 fellas are the best of the best of the best.

    20. Chazz from Wedding Crashers
    19. Pai Mei in Kill Bill 2
    18. Sean Connery in Highlander
    17. Patches O'Houlihan in Dodgeball
    16. Professor X in X-Men
    15. Robin Williams in Good Will Hunting
    14. V in V For Vendetta
    13. Chubbs Peterson in Happy Gilmore
    12. Trent in Swingers
    11. Rufus in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure
    10. The 40 Year-Old Virgin guys
    9. Gandalf from Lord of the Rings
    8. Lester Bangs from Almost Famous
    7. Tyler Motherfuckin' Durden from Fight Club
    6. Mickey from the Rocky movies
    5. Leon in um... Leon
    4. Roger Dodger
    3. Morpheus in The Matrix
    2. Mr. Miyagi in The Karate Kid movies
    1. It's a Star Wars deathmatch!
Full list can be found here

One thing I pontificated over was whether Doc Brown from Back to the Future technically qualifies as a mentor. Yes? No? I'm sure I've missed loads. Anyway, enjoy.

I'd go for Sean Pertwee as Sgt Harry Wells in Dog Soldiers - I'd lay my life on the line for him any day of the week.

    Or to simplify it:

Sean Connery in Highlander, Untouchables, Entrapment, Rising Sun, Finding Forrester, The Name of the Rose (sort of) and The Rock (stretching it a bit further). And maybe even Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade.

edit: Can this thread be renamed to "Top 20 Sean Connery Mentor Movies"?

    The Sphinx from Mystery Men

"To learn my teachings, I must first teach you how to learn."

"He who questions training only trains himself at asking questions."

Mr. Furious: Okay, am I the only one who finds these sayings just a little bit formulaic? "If you want to push something down, you have to pull it up. If you want to go left, you have to go right." It's...
The Sphinx: Your temper is very quick, my friend. But until you learn to master your rage...
Mr. Furious: ...your rage will become your master? That's what you were going to say. Right? Right?
    The Sphinx: Not necessarily.
